Cant / Twist

While shooting my one peice guide B11 today
I was smacked in the head with another idea.
To stop spring cant/twist. since it has a one
peice guide it is possable to put 2 springs in.
Instead of one long spring that twists in one direction.
Use 2 short springs that are wound in oppisite directions
so one spring would twist right and the other would
twist left...cancelling each other out.

Can anyone see any problums with the theroy??

More problems I would think where the spring's meet creating more can't since their not one piece. There would have to be a guide rod of some sort's keeping them squared up on one other. I think it would be the weak link and would possibly cause severe gouging in the compression chamber. I'm sure someone will jump in with some advice on this one.:) Ed

Two  things you are going to need a spring wound in the opposite direction  I'm not sure you can find one you can't just take the piece you cut in half and turn it around it will still be going in the same direction , and  you will need 2 bearings in between the spring ends where they meet and this is where you will need a spring guide probley part of the same  bearing system  I'm not sure it will get rid of the reverse recoil that is hard on scopes and makes a springer more of a challenge to use. it's a interesting  idea. lots of luck howie

Howie, in most springer's that I have seen the piston is generally only 4 to 5" long. with that said when the gun is cocked you have at least 3 to 4" of spring that does not feed into the piston. And of course you have to fingered in coil bind as well. You would need something to keep the springs in line after the gun is shot or in the un cocked position. A spring guide length would not be long enough for such alignment. Plus it is not a good idea to use flat thrust bearings between the spring's. It would be better to use a highly polished stainless washer between the two springs. As far as two spring's that have the opposite wire twist, to me would be almost impossible to find.

Hi Gene you would probly have to make your one spring as I too have not seen any reverse wound spring , and a s/ s washer is a good idea but you would need s short maybe 1/2 guide on each side of the washer kind of like a short bolt going through the washer you could turn one very easy on a lath but to try to make one by welding a bolt in the washer would be hard at least for me my welding is not very good.I can get it to stick together but it looks bad. I'm not sure it would work. But it is a interesting idea. it's probly easyer to learn how to shot the gun or go CO2 or PCP  howie

Hi..Shadow the gun is the B11 I moded to
a one peice guide so spring alinement will not
be a issue. Prob the only gun that it could be done to.

Hi..howie... I will have a spring maker make them
for me.

Gene..There will be a thust between the springs.

Ps..What is the avarage diffrents in  length
between a  "set" and "unset" spring

There used to be an underlever rifle called the Rellum Tornado, this had concentric springs as standard. It never proved to be a success, and most people took the two springs out and replaced them with one quality spring and gained considerable power.

Here it is fully cocked..You can see the end of
the guide\in the end of the cover tube.
the guide shaft is 12.7mm OD X 1.2mm  stainless
steel tube  1/2" OD
