hot wrap a QB79?

Question:  Since CO2 makes for weaker shooting when cold, is it dangerous to wrap a heat wrap around the co2 cylinder while hunting in cold weather?  I'm talking about the stuff deer hunters will put in their shoes or gloves.  There are also the pharmacy versions that people use for arthritus and so forth.  Would such a heat wrap on the cylinder help?

You may want to test what you want to use first. I do not think it would be wise to exceed 90 degrees for a long period of time. This subject has come up before and Ed, AKA Shadow has been working on a battery operated heat sock for a while and he would probably be able to give you some insight on this subject. There are other members who shoot Co2 allot and may chime in on your thread.

The problem is that the gas that is going to be squirted out behind the pellet has to sit in the valve and gas tube.  The gas might be warm going in if you just heated the tank, but in a few minutes it would be cool again.

Then the gas gets squirted out into a cold barrel...which doesn't do a whole lot for its ability to rapidly expand.

I think it could be done...have played with various ideas....but it will work best if the whole rifle is warmed, but not heated past 80 degrees.  Have a lot of electric warmers on the market...gloves, socks, motorcycle seats, portable baby-bottle warmers, etc.  Some can be more easily adapted than others, but you really need a thermometer and a temperature control to be sure the gun isn't over heating.

I did some testing with sock warmer's on my QB78, worked great out in South Dakota during winter brrrrrrr. I still need to fine tune the way the sock wrap's up around the 78 tube and stock but the first test were real promising. Ed

I see.  So after all of this input, I can see a future invention.  In addition to the Charlie Da Tuna Trigger, there will be a future Charlie Da Tuna Tube Heater!
