34 needed to hunt......
« on: December 07, 2008, 05:21:18 AM »
so with a break in the heavy snow flurries and wind the sun broke out and I was out of here.:) Cabin fever had almost got me since I knew all those critters were out there just waiting to be harvested but the Airgun Hunting God's smiled today with clear and sunny skies and very little wind and a warm 30 degree's hehehe. I decided to take the RWS34 that I had purchased from my Airbud Gene awhile back, he tuned her and she's smooth and deadly accurate. The pellet of choice today was the Tomahawk and I had sighted her in last night with them, a click or two was all it needed to stack em at 30yrds. I've left the wood's alone behind my place for some time now and watched em everyday from my house move back and forth through bare tree's so it was time to get in there and thin em out some. Bundled up in snow camo except for my shooter I headed out across the snow and for my wood pile, I would hold up there and wait for a good shot. Making it to my location I spotted several nutters watching me from some limb's about 20yards out but they didn't move except for tails twitching while eyeballing me. I just settled in behind some firewood and peeked up over the pile, they hadn't moved so I rested the 34 over the wood and put the scope on the bigger of the two which at that point stretched himself out on the limb to soak up the sun, perfect. ;) I locked the crosshairs onto the side of his mug, pushed off the safety and sent the Destroyer away. The Destroyer made a "POP" sound as it found it's mark, he flipped once then dropped into the snow twitching for just a moment. I quickly reloaded and was ready for the other nutter but he had already shot to the top of the tree and was headed for better cover. I stood up and shook off some snow and headed for my harvest, 24yards and the Destroyer had found it's mark in the fusebox, my favorite spot.:) Snagged him up and brushed off the snow from him for some pic's with the sweet 34 then I hung out for another hour splitting some wood with the occasional scan around for any other brave one's, none were up to the challenge so I rested for a spell with a thermos of java and soaked up some of Ma Natures winter beauty. With my Zen in place I headed back for the house to dress out the day's harvest then get some pic's up for you hunt junkies here oh that's me too lol. Ed

Thanks buddy, I used the "GORILLA GLUE" on it.:) That glue works GREAT! but I am thinking about switching butt pad's, I have a nice curved one that will do just fine. Ed

Nice snow hunt you luccky dog. The only time we get snow around here is when the northeast wind is blowing 50 mph. Looking at the size of that nutter I thought you had shot a small german shepard.HEHE Got to love those guns Gene has put some love into. looking good.

Ed you are a lucky man.. To have such beauty and surroundings is something I can only dream of... I have noticed that your fox squirrels are a more prominent red color than mine are,[ were] .

I feel useless and not able t contribute to the hunting board anymore.. I have killed everything that was available.. I didn't think that it would end... Its been weeks since I shot anything with fur.. and my wife has a bigger kill than i do..   I am slipping into a rut and need some fur...

Great story and beautifull pics with you perty red squirrel....
