Help chooseing a .22
« on: November 24, 2006, 09:30:08 AM »
I wanted to get a .22 for awhile now. Ive been looking at quite a few and even thought of a rebarrel. The qb's seemed decent but the velocity seems kind of low for hte shooting id be doing. I have about a max range of 50 yards and mostly do 30-40 yard shots.
So that kind of ruled them out unless I can get it tuned to pull around 800ish fps.
Also looked at gettign a new shadow and rebarreling it to a .22    But that also seems ot be a nexpensive route.

So seeing what everyone recommends. Like to spend about 175-200.

Here is one ive been looking at : http://www.pyramidair.com/cgi-bin/model.pl?model_id=872

Hey, 88, how 'bout a B26?  Check out the classifieds for Wallis's new site, L & M Sports.  $120 for the standard stock, $140 for the thumbhole.  Gene has one of the B26-2 thumbhole versions, seems to think well of it, although he doesn't like the high comb.  Of course, if you want to increase the budget about $100, you could get into an RWS Diana, either the 350 Magnum or a 48.  HTH.

That b26-2 looks like a really really good deal. Any feedback on the b30-1 at all?

Check the Product Reviews under Airguns, Wallis recently did a review of the B30 fresh out of the box, as well as some follow-up info after doing a tune.  Several others chimed in with good info also.

What about an RWS 34 in .22  or perhaps the 34 Panther in .22?

Midsouth has them for $167.00

I don't own one but I've read alot of good comments about them on this and other forums.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

The b30-1 is a very good rifle in 22. the last one I sold to Greg was the sweetest shooter I have ever delt with. the gun out of box no tune at all.
the numbers is from shooting  crosman permiers 14.3
Min  760.5
>>Max  766.4
>>Avg. 763.56
>>Extreme Spread  5.90
>>Standard Dev.   2.09
>>Your FPE 18.5
I would say with a tune, it mite be better but not to much. The gun's recoil was very linear not a hard jolt but very sharp.

What exactly do you want?

When you talk "800ish", what do you mean? Manufacturer's horse-poop claims? With the lightest pellets available? Or do you mean 800 with real, usable pellets the 14-15gr range?

If you're looking for the latter, that comes out to around 20ft-lbs of energy... and I believe the B30 and its cousin, the B21/B22 are the only guns under $200 that MIGHT deliver that much power. The B26 and the RWS34, whatever else their good qualities may be, don't have that kind of oomph.

Neither does a .22 Gamo, outside the no-longer-available 1250 model. I rebarreled a Shadow (a new one) to .22, and with Premier HP 14.3gr pellets, it'll do 720's. Plenty for what I need, and it plinks nicely at 50-60 yards, but if you're looking for max springer power this ain't it.

Don't know much specifically about the Beeman you're looking at.
