Do be careful handling those bandits, they get the last laugh if you get rabies. Here in NC the  raccoon population is considered to be nearly all rabid. The way the males fight each other spreads it. Wear gloves at the very least, I wouldn't want to miss any of your posts!

That's right - I remember it saying it's "weather resistant" but that could mean it's cold-weather resistant or something, but I 'll tell you.. it's been raining here for 2 days and this thing still works outside out in the open!  A cat came this morning while there 's still some light freezing rain, and the receiver went off!  Best bang for the buck!

As much as I 'd love to see pics of dead skunks on here, I do NOT recommend shooting one unless it's far away from your house :-)

The instructions that came with mine did say it was weather resistant but recommended keeping it out of "direct" rain/snow.  It's clearly made to be used outside,,, I guess the manufacturers are just covering themselves with a generic cover all recommendation.  Glad to hear your unit has continued to work out in the open under such weather conditions Harry,,, that's great.  I'm really looking forward to setting mine up Monday night and setting the trap for this coon  :)  If I can manage to get him I will take particular enjoyment in dining on the raccoon stew he's gonna make  :)

Scotsman you are right about that.  They do carry rabies sometimes, especially in warm climates.  I have eaten many of them as taken from my trap lines, back in the day.  I never caught one that I thought was rabid.  Still that is something people should think about whenever handling, cleaning, or processing game.  Especially true for any carnivore as big as or bigger than a house cat.

We have foxes and feral cats here in Virginia.  Rabies is common in both critters.

Dave from what I've read from folk's who trap Armadillo you can use fruit like bananas, apples or rotten cabbage. Also you can use earth worm's or meal worms, place them in a stalking, pantie hose and hang them from a limb above the ground. They will pick up the scent and head in. Ed
