what to get, and don't say both!
« on: November 26, 2006, 03:12:44 AM »
I am wavering between a r-9 goldfinger combo in .22 or the RWS 52 in the classifieds. I would use it mostly for plinking and occasional small game hunting.   I can't hunt here in Mich with anything less than .22 cal. I could go with .177 if I needed to and use something else for small game. What do you guys think?

How 'bout the RWS350 in .22 - $300 at midsouthshooterssupply.com?

Accordign to straightshooters.com, the 350 has the power advantage over both the RWS 48/52/54 series and the R9 (by quite a bit).

The R9 looks to be more like a medium powered rifle, and personally I'm a bit iffy when it comes to the sliding-compression tube type breach as found on the 48/52/54. Not as safe as a breakbarrel.

I'd get the 52. It should have more power, the quality is good too. The trigger is a bit harder than the R9, but it can be improved. You will probably need drooper mounts or just shim the back of the scope up. Some people just bend the barrel up a bit (no biggy)
