Crossman Premier Hollow Points
« on: December 15, 2008, 03:33:28 PM »
I have found my new favorite pellet.  My G1 Extreme just loves these things. From 50 feet  it shoots nickel sized groups.  I get them at Wal Mart for $6.46  for a 500 rd Tin.  You cant beat that.  These pellets expand well.
For better expansion I started using a thin razor blade to create a crosshair effect on the front of the bullet to allow for more expansion and it worked very well.
I also think that the gun is getting alot more accurate with time.  Just wanted to say these pellets are awesome

Great all-around plinker for sure but plenty enough for hunting too. For the price, you get alot more for the money compared to the other 'premier' brands of pellets! tjk

I think that they are pretty good pellets also.  I have found that, if you stretch the distance out to 35yds. or so and shoot like 20 shot groups, you will start to see 2 to 3 distinct groups within the 20 shot group.  I have not weighed and sorted pellets with these before, but this will usually eliminate this occurence.  I only weigh and sort the pellets that are used for long range, because that is a couple of hours of my life I will never get back.  If you ever get into competition sorting can be the difference between 1st place and 10th.  With that being stated, I wouldn't hesitate to use unsorted CP HPs for normal hunting distances.

The premiers fit very nice in the G1.  I have a tin of Crossman Premier Super Points and they Are extremely tight in the barrel and are HORRIBLE!!!  I also have the deystroyers they are great for shorter range.  Longer range they lose too much momentum and drop more than other pellets.  I am going to post up some pics of the expansion into paper.  with and without the relief cuts

wow.

i actually had the exact same thing happen minus the call to crossman... i haed i think 3 random other pellets in one tin... only once... and never heard of it anywhere else...  I ended up getting just the regular domed however, not destroyers.    i'v shot mabey 5-6 tins of these however, i love CPHP's.  my Gamo shoots them well, at least well enough, i killed a Duck that had a broken wing from about 125 yards... now it took me like 4 shots to hit him, but the terminal performance at that range out of my Gamo Big Cat, was just fantastic. one shot (hit) and it was toast.  did two, 1 wing flaps, and ceased to exist in the mortal world.
Gamo Big Cat 1200 .177  only shoot 2 pellets, PREDATOR POLYMAGS and CPHPS
kill count 2010.

Pics in order are
1. Crossman premier hp with expansion cuts
2. Regular pellet shot into newspaper
3. group of 4 regulars shot into newspaper
4. Pellet cut for expansion shot into newspaper
5. group of 4 cut pellets shot into the paper

I am going to see if cutting the pellets effects the accuracy.  as far as I can tell there is a very minimal effect on accuracy.

I would definitely say that the cutting for expansion makes a significant difference.  Please keep us posted when you start the accuracy comparison tests.

i dont think that their is a big diffence in accuracy, if any, just wacked a squirrel 35 yards away a couple of days ago using this idea, (cause i got the idea off of you), he only dropped 5 feet, and never kicked, i cut mine all the way down to the very bottom of the hollow point
