First Tree Rat with my Gamo Big Cat
« on: December 17, 2008, 03:28:14 PM »
well... this is a bit lengthy, and there were no pictures.  i'm sorry in advance!  awesome story however!

I was there, all alone... except my brand new Gamo Big Cat 1200.  i had but one mission, a rogue bushytail that had been eluding me for days... it was a slow, slow crawl  through the underbrush, (my mothers hostas) to get to the vantage point to where i could see my enemy.  He was fully armed with the latest in exray vision, super hearing, and a supercharged getaway vehicle.  he was making dailey raides on the Feeder, ensuring that hungary songbirds never get to reach maturity, and continue there species.  When i rounded the corner from the Ever conceiling Hostas to the Slightly open Wild Daiseys, my pray stopped, and stood up.  Using his Xray vision, he scanned, looking for his enemy.  Luckily i had employed the latest of Stealth Technology, and was fully camo'd from head to toe.  I had but one shot, due to my weapon being shrouded in a camo net to protect it from the target's Xray vision.  As I sat there stealthed with my enemy stairing directly at me for what seamed like days, he went back to greedily feasting on the future of the area locals; mere civilians who were counting on the donations from the Seed Kitchen, without it, they perished, a cold, slow death.  I was employed by the darkest, most secretive of governments, to dispatch this Urban Thief.... the woman goes by the codename   M.O.M.  as the Enemy goes back to his thievery, i again begin my hands and knees crawl, to get to a vantage point.    My assistance on this Top Secret Mission came from a Tin of JSP Predators.  The fantastic weapon of mass destruction.  we will refer to this weapon as codename POLYMAG.  my GAMO and POLYMAG, assist me in this what seems like a suicide mission.  When i get to the pre planned Location in secter 13, to carry out codename M.O.M.'s Evil assassination, the enemy makes a mad dash... DIRECTLY AT ME.  one of the local civilians, a Cardinal, beautiful male, just wanting a bite to eat from the seed kitchen, the Enemy, immediatly charged it and nabbed the civilian by the wing.  I immediatly popped out of my hiding and lined my hiding place and blew my cover, but the enemy continued with his terrorist assault.  I lined up the crosshairs on the ball of Furry Brown, and Red.  i couldn't tell if the civilian bird was injured or not but both were making more noise than a MOAB.  I tried to line my crosshairs on the enemy's head, but the two were rolling and rolling.  finally, when i thought i had a clear shot, i squeesed the trigger.  i immediatly heard......... nothing.   SAFETY oh no!  i slam the safety forward, and line back up on the enemy.  Finally he rolled my way, all i could see was the curve of the enemy's back, as he haunched over the Helpless, and now barely fluttering civilian.  i squeesed the trigger.  BLAM the gun goes off... after what seemed like ages, the projectile WMD, hits its mark, with laser precision.  BLAP!  the surefire sound as codename POLYMAG hits its mark, square on the enemy's spine.  the mass of fur and feathers imediatly cease all movement.  I fear the worse, as i climb from my hiding spot from the now not so hidden Wild daiseys.  i creep up to the enemy and his victim.  both lay motionless upon the ground.  i use the tip of my weapon, to flip the enemy over.  underneath the bloody remnants of his chest cavity, is a pure saddening sight.  the enemy had begun to chew on the victim's head, as if it were a walnut.  my WMD peirced through the enemy's spine, through his plumbing, into the poor poor victim, through the victim, and lodged deeply into the earth.  upon mission verification of M.O.M.  i began to recover the WMD.  it was a mangled mess.  completely expanded, from .177 to over 1/4 of an inch!  sadly i took the life of a civilian.  collateral damage.   Sometimes in war, Death is unavoidable.  I did however, rid the terrorist ranks of a senior leader.  upon further identification, we determined he was of the Gray Bushytail variety, and quite a high ranking officer of the terrorist ranks.  Weighing in at nearly 2.5 pounds, he was no small fry.  he had been raiding the villages nearby for some time.  Hopefully this will send a message to the rest of the terrorist forces that we will not sit here and allow there raidings on our local people any more.  We will stand and fight!  because of the Classification of this mission, no photo's were available, but the village will sleep in peace tonight, for hte first time in a long while.

The end.

True Story...  first time i'v ever seen a Tree Rat Attack and attempt to kill/eat a bird.  i was pretty sick after knowing that my JSP Predator killed the male Cardinal, they are such a magestic and beautifull bird.  the Predator did not let me down however.  it hit the spine on the bushytail, and immediatly render'd him unable to breath, somewhere before it decided to take the boiler room, and splatter it all over the poor bird.  the expanded projectile then continued through the bird, and did considerable damage to it.  the enterance hole could fit a pencil through it, and the exit hole, was nearly the size of a dime.  it then buried itself 4 inches deep  in hard compacted yard.  That was the first blood to be spilled by the Big Cat.  i'v taken Starlings back home at nearly 75 yards, and squirrels at over 45-50 yards.  My projectile of choice depends on my wallet.  if i am short on cash, CPHP's.   if i have a spare 20 bucks, a tin of JSP predators is my weapon of choice.  But i find when i have them i wish to watch there carnage.  I hope you enjoy'd my stalk.  Thanks for being here with me!

i got over it really quick... 2 hours later mom is yelling from accross the house, 2 tree rats in the feeder.  they were in line with each other.  i was hoping to make a double boiler room shot.  i squeesed off the gun, (this time remembered the safety) and the first squirrel, didn't move, just layed down.  the second one, jumped, rolled, and did the break dance of death.  then it took off and ran like H3!!.  i couldn't follow him fast enough due to me shooting through the back window of the house.  i tried to follow the blood trail, (almost as much as a good bowshot deer) but never did find the bugger.  i totally believe i killed him, but i couldn't find him.  1st rule of hunting, don't take stupid shots.

my bad.

Sadly the military has Sent me to Las Vegas NV, and finding good Airgunning area, is virtually impossible.  there is BLM land, but getting inside 50 yards for a shot at anything.  and the desert underbrush is nearly impossible.  i'm trying badly to get an assignment to Mississippi or somewhere in the south so i can hunt again.  god do i miss it.  but the air force helped introduce me to my wife and in turn brought my daughter into the world.

When you get to Vegas rabbits, doves etc are plentiful down near Laughlin ( christmas tree pass). Also out near Apex.

Great hunting story.  Don`t feel too bad....if your pellet didn`t kill the cardinal, the nutter probably would have.  Some of those nutters can be quite vicious...especially when food becomes scarce.....they`ll eat meat.

Good story Ed and welcome to the GTA hunting forum!

That BT definitely deserved what he got.  They will eat a bird I believe any chance they get.  I put a crow out to attrract other crows and a day or 2 later I noticed a hole on top of the crow with many feathers gone.  The next day I look at the crow again from the window and something doesn't look right..  I open the foggy window (from my wife's hot blistering shower) and see a squirrel on top of the crow eating it!  I have not been able to spot him yet..  I think he 's the only one left and only comes around once in a while (40 other BT's paid the price over the course of a year so I 'm runnng out of targets).  They can definitely be carnivours and opportunistic especially in the winter time.

You put the bird out of it's misery, and rehabilitated the squirrel. It had to be done. Don't blame yourself, soldier. It goes with the territory.

LOL, that was brilliant.  Well written and I laughed so hard I cried a bit.

I hope your assignments are where you want to be but if they turn out not to be where you want to be, decide that you want to be where you are.  ;)  I have never been anywhere, in my entire life, that I did not learn to like the place, some more than others, I suppose; still, having been on four continents over the past thirty five years, I can honestly say, I have never been to a place that I did not like by the time I left it.

Good job, Agent of M.O.M.
