Well I will give you two kill stories.
Granted I am a newbie to this forum and becuase of this some of you may find the following unbievable, but I swear that what you are about to
read is all true.
One background note for all you is that I am a hunter by nature. Killing tree rats and the occasionaly cotton tail out of my yard is what I do for
fun at home. During the regular hunting seasons in Wisconsin I also hunt deer, goose and ducks using only a 12 gauage shotgun.
So here are my short storys.
The first of my long shot kills was a cotton tail that decided to make my yard and a couple of surrounding yards his new home. Obviously
rabbits can not read squirel, because I am sure the squirrels have put up warning signs about venturing to far into these properties. Any how
this rabbit was seen hopping down the neigbhors driveway one evening (but not for long) while I was already out shooting at other critters.
So I decide what the heck, lets see what kind of range my Gamo Hunter has. Using the back step hand rail to steady the gun I let rip a crossman hollowpoint (my favorite rounds for the Gamo). A second later through the scope I see rabbit jump once and rollover never to move again.
On my way to pick up my kill I paced out the shot to be approx. 45 yards. The rabbit took the round near the base of the skull. From what I figure his neck was broken and all nerve functions were severed which explains why it did run very far.
The second long shot kill just this last weekend. I will tell you all right now that this was an extremely lucky shot, a marical shot, the airgun gods were smiling over me on this shot, ie. you get the picture.
It was a nice sun shinny saturday morning, the grass is still brown, the trees are still barrin and the birds are trying to find last years nest. Among natures little wonders were 3 squirrels, yes that is right count them 1, 2, 3. These are the first squirrels I have seen to even think of shooting at, and I did not think about for very long. I look at my daughter and say "get gun kid, there are critters to shoot at". While she get the gun I pick out the Diabola Exacts that were used to sight in my newly purchased RWS 350 magnum (thanks again daved). The kid and I meet up on the back porch were I remove the screen from one of the windows so I can set up the shot. I knew the gun was sited in for 30 yards and that this shot was more than twice the that. Yes I know that is a long shot, but this is the first squirrel siting of the year and I did not care how far away it was, I needed to shoot at something!
I site in a on a tree rat that just will not sit still while on the ground. Finally it ran up a tree an sat on large main branch of said tree, and it sat there long enough for to pull the trigger. What happened next surprised the kid and I, the squirrel jumped about two feet in the air. This is usually a good indication that you have hit your target. The squirrel missed the branch on the way back down to land on the ground instead. From there it ran to another tree climbed up said tree about three feet, stopped and then fell backwards onto the ground to never move again. "HOLY CRAP" I killed it. I only expected at most was to hit the tree and scare it. Being the responseble hunter that I am, I start walking to retrieve the first kill of the year.
Knowing this was a long shot I paced it out on my way. When I was done my first though was "no way did I just shoot that far". I paced out the distance two more times to be only off by 1/2 yard.
Ladies and Gents the final distance was 81 yards on a slite downhill slope. This is not a joke, I do have a witness to the entire event who was just as supprised as I was.
I do have some other very good stories that will be shared at a later date.
