Gamo pellets in a Gamo Maxima .22
« on: December 26, 2008, 11:17:44 PM »
Hi folks, hope Christmas has been kind to you!
I thought I would do a comparason with some of the Gamo pellets today at 20M using a bale of hay to support the gun front and back! The following results supprised me a bit! What I considered to be working well in my Maxina was rubbish at 20m (Maybe it was me!) The Match pellet was all over the place, group size was about the size of a  beer can top! After shooting 10 pellets, I was ready to ditch the gun in the nearest river but the nearest river was about 200miles away so I ploughed on with the next set of pellets! This time, out came the Rockets with the little metal ball embedded in the tip! Again, after 10 shots I was thinking about rivers! With my sniper instinct in tatters I reached for the expanders! They were expendable! The walk to the river was looking more promising by the minuit! The tin was thrown into the bag and I opened a beer for my now non existant sniper instincts! After a moment of reflection, with the words 'Don't buy the Gamo, they are crap' running through my head I got out my last 10 Pro Magnums! They felt kind of tight in the breach so to speak! But after the first few pellets, I knew I had found my pellet! One after another they were going to the same spot! Ended up with a nice little group and some of my honour back! Maybe it was the beer loosening me up a bit, who knows! Well, with new found confidence I got the Magnums out! Same sort of story but with one flier! So my pellet is the Pro Magnum!

After all the intense target shooting I decided to do some long range plinking (75 meters) My empty beer can was placed down range and with the 'Expenders' at hand started chucking shots all over the place! Back in the bag for them! Reached for the Match and in the first 10 shots, I hit it 7 times! What the hell is all this about I thought? I can't hit jack sh!t at 20m but a 75m they seem to be drawn to the can!

Anyway, feeling happy again with my sniper instinct restored!

Hmmm....strange how the Gamo Match didn't group at 20 meters....but did better at 75 meters.  But keep on testing.....

Just bought a couple of tins of pro mags and match just to do a bit more testing! I think the gun's very hold sensitive so I'll try to repeat the test with the gun supported at the front only! I seem to get better results like that with the match!

Yep, the pro magnuns are a nice fit! Quite a selection on shooters you've got there Shadow! And I just love the digital TAC1. What a beast!
