What if any b2-2 mod, tune pontential ?
« on: December 29, 2008, 11:33:35 PM »
Curious about potential of these guns. I know with the direct sear trigger, power plant, and over all design, there are limitations, but has anyone tried any mods? Like spring replacements, spring pre load, seals etc. Could one of these be a cheap, decent shooting 650 to 750 fps .177 project gun?

Just curious

Thanks...James

I do not know about the B2-2 but there are plenty of us who have done our own tunes and mods on our B-3's and they come out to be good shooters.

I prefer b3 too. Barrel without joint gives me peace of mind. I think B2 has longer stroke and because of that, more velocity potential, but I an not sure.

I've got the B2-255 in 22 cal and had one in 177 too it has been tuned chamber polished the trigger polished and 2 oilite bronze  ( a kind of oil  impregnated  bearing ) on the spring ends.  barrel  shortened and re crowned as well as choked and a stock refinish as well as a 4 x32 BSA scope on it  the 22 cal with chp pellets ( 14.5 grains ) are putting out an adverage  of 459 fps ( 6.69 ft. lbs.) and is very accurate for a cheep china rifle.( After polishing the trigger it is not bad for a single stage direct sear trigger.) I didn't change the spring but I'm sure it could be done very easy, one orther thing the gun has a barrel lock you need to push a thumb button to release  the barrel to cock it and this makes for a nice same place lock up for the barrel helps to make this rifle very accurate. howie

How thick were the bushings you added to the ends of the spring? Did you happen to take any measurements on that spring when you had it out?
My daughter has a b1-1 would you know if the chamber spring dimensions are different from the b2-2.

Thanks...James

The B1 -1 is going to be a 177 and the B2-255 is going to be a 22 cal the last 3 numbers is the cal. the b1 is a lower grade rifle than the b2 like no raised cheek piece on the b1 and a raised cheek piece on the b2 not much different else. the bronze oil lite bushings were about 1/8 inch if I remember  right and oillite mtl. has a lube built into the washers I think I had to drill them out to custom fit them but they look like a washer and you can get them from a bearing shop., the spring is same as the one in the south summit cleaning kit, their is a also a synthetic seal in the kit too. I think it picked up the fps a little but the thing it did was to make the rifle more smooth and better shooting than befor , In my thinking china rifles is like getting a rifle kit you get all the pieces but need to do the final finishing on them to make them real nice, You could take the pellet fps calcauter and back figger it useing the 459 fps and the 14.3 gr. giveing you a ft.lbs. of 6.69 and back figger putting a 7.9 for pellet weight anf using the ft. of 6.69 to get the fps for a 177 pellet it will at least get you an approx figget. but you need to know that any china rifle numbers from the mfg. are at least 100 fps. faster than in real life since we use heaver pellets.like a 22 cal will allwayse be slower than a 177 in the same rifle because of pellet weight ( like the beamann 2 barrel rifle wseing the same power plant. howie  PS I just ran the figgers back and it looks like a 177 could run around 630 fps, using 7.9 pellets.

I was thinking the b-2 was a little longer somewhere compared to the b1-1.

It might be longer but I cut down the barrel length on mine I happen to like carbines also I feel that the pellet don't have to stay in the barrel to long if you shorten the barrel you make the rifle less hold senstive due to less time in the barrel when the reverse recoil happens ( if I cut  down a barrel I re crown it and also put a choke in the barrel this swages the pellet before  it leaves the gun so all pellets are the same dia. ) howie1a
