Ruger Air Hawk Fix and question.
« on: December 30, 2008, 05:36:13 PM »
Hello everyone, new to the forums.  You guys have been a great source of information on choosing my first air gun.  I went with the Ruger Air Hawk just because I like to tinker, it was cheap, and local.  I got it tonight and tore it down first thing.  My gun seems to follow the review/discussion trend as far as construction.  I have only shot a few rounds through it (its dark!) so I will try and update with my mods and luck.
--to the point--
I polished the trigger components and while replacing the small spring facing the safety, it shot into the twilight zone of misc boxes piled up in the room. Oh no!  Instead of crying (which is definitely an option in a case like this) I grabbed a cheap BIC mechanical pencil and removed the spring.  Its just about the same length, diameter and seems to have a similar spring constant.  The trigger is much smoother than it was out of the box.  The trigger components (looks like powder-casting) are very bad.  It took a lot of polishing to get them smoothed out.
..Your milage may vary.  Can't wait until its light enough outside to make out a target.
--question--
Are parts for these chinese guns easy to come by like crosman parts?  I needed a seal kit for my AIR17 and crosman swiftly shipped them.

Thanks.

John T

welcome ! i tuned my air hawk myself it was my second tune . i used the stock spring and seal , but they were in great shape . i mixed up my own spring lube and a did a few other things . its like a completely different rifle with just a basic tune , with a better spring iit would be even better , but i am happy with mine .
