QB78 Valve Assembly Removal
« on: December 31, 2008, 04:19:17 AM »
QB-78 Quik-Tune by Charlie and CO2 tuneup by Craig both say to remove the valve assembly (0400) by driving from the front to the rear.
This not only destroys the O-ring (0409), but also scores the brass exhaust valve body (0410).
I asked myself, wouldn't it be better to drive the valve assembly from rear to the front?
The only problem I could see is that one would not want to drive against the valve stem (0408).
Couldn't you just drill a 1/4" center hole in the end of the wood dowel used to drive out the valve assembly?
The valve stem would sit in the center hole of the wood dowel.
This way, you would only drive against the exhaust valve body (0410) and not the valve stem (0408)?
This would make the removal easier without having to go past all those tube (0100) holes that tear everything up?
Am I missing something here in my thinking?

Be sure you've loosened the wo halves of the valve body (that's why there is that big screw driver slot in the al. end)....they don't take much driving, can usually push them out.

No reson you can't use a dowel with a hole drilled in it for the valve stem.  I've pushed them out with the barrel when out doing field repairs.
