Big Cat's favorite pellets
« on: January 02, 2009, 08:33:38 AM »
I've shot three different kinds of pellets through my Big Cat, but I'm going to wait unti it gets back from Gamo before any more testing from the damage I probably did to it, so I'm not putting in too much detail here.

When I first got it, I was shooting some of the Gamo Raptors. Loud as hell, then found out it was a sonic boom. Later on, I found thier penetration rather impressive and they hold thier shape. I managed to hit a soda can 50 yards out twice on the first try with the PBA, but it may be due to internal damage from dry-firing twice lowering the velocity. Under 1000 FPS, I say these are the way to go. ^^

Daisy Precision Max pointed pellets were crap in the Big Cat. Even though when I was first using them I was inexperienced, by the end of the tin I had an idea of how to hold it. I usually missed. The skirts were pretty inconsistent. It threw them all over the place.

Then, I got some Kodiak Beeman Double Golds. Love the copper coating. I'm a little weary about lead. They penetrate farther than the PBA rounds. ^^ They're 10.6 grains, though, so I think that might be pushing it, but I've read elsewhere that in these higher-powered springers a heavier pellet is more favorable. On PyramidAir, one revlewer of the Crossman Premier Heavies said they were the only safe pellets to shoot in the magnum springers. They seem to be pretty accurate, but they'll drop more because of the lower velocity.

I was thinking about getting some Crossman Premier Lights and trying those out. Seeing that they were about the same wieght as the Daisy pellets I used, I've been avoiding them.

My next order from PyramidAir is going to be some JSB Exacts, with a little more wieght than the CPL's. I'll give those a go in the Big Cat and see what happens. I've still got about 900 Kodiak Double Gold's left. And the JSB's are half the price of the Kodiaks!

Other ammo reviews in the Big Cat encouraged. ^^

And I realized there was some info elsewhere after I posted this, and found out I can't delete it. ^^;
