If anyone tells you that wild turkeys are stupid...
« on: June 21, 2006, 01:28:12 PM »
...believe them.

I'm sittin' out back plinking at a circular saw blade about 60 yards away with my B20. Makes a nice "DOOOIIINNNNGGGG" when it's hit.

So there was a bunch of wild turkeys in my back yard off to the right. WHILE I AM SHOOTING, they march - in a row - about 10-15 feet (or less) in front of my target. I hit the blade a couple of times to scare them off - while they were near it - and noooo reaction at all.

I also put a couple of pellets in the grass a few inches away from a couple of the birds - again, no reaction.

So now they're off to the left - they turn around, and do exactly the same thing again, this time marching from left to right.

I'm not a hunter - but MAN that was hard to resist!

That's the whole problem! They are stupid. So when your sitting in your camo trying to call them in for hours on end, you might finally get one to show up  8)  Been there, done that.

Geez, all this time and money spent on camo, when all you really needed was a saw blade and a mallet to bring them in? LOL!!!

cause I can fire shots at rabbits, miss them and they don't even move.  Luckily I don't miss very often but once in awhile.....

Last Sunday around 5pm I was shooting at my targets when a rabbit started his evening feed about 20 yards away.   Them being big pests to my neighbor's gardens, I switched to 'hunter' mode.   In my rush to get this guy I forgot I had been shooting from my deck at about 56" elevation to a target 30 yards away at about 36" elevation.  After a "heafty man's sneak" behind a big tree I got prone and sighted in the rabbit at about 30 yards.  Aimed for the head and missed.  Rabbit never moved.  Did it again, missed and realized I forgot my elevations and was shooting high.  Rabbit, again, never moved even with CPHP's wizzing over his head.   Third shot took him 1/4" above the eye and he moved down and horizontal.  Rabbit #6 for this year.  Made me chuckle at his stupidity.

Number seven went to bunny heaven this morning with one Crossman Premier Ultra Magnum.  First shot from my deck prone.  I remembered my elevations...hehe
