Barrels and chokes

Can a shortened barrel be rechoked?  If so, how is it done?  Would, if possible, it be a cost-effective approach or just replace the barrel with a Lothar or something shortened?  Thanks in advance.

I don't understand the need for a choked barrel.

Most air guns don't have choked barrels but if you have one it should make the rifle more accurate what it does is to swage the pellet so all your pellets are the same size coming out of your barrel.Their is an artical from Pyramyd Air  and  Pelleiteir about chokes, also Timmy 1959 has a tool he had made that will choke barrels also I have a tool too. I do find that after I the  choked barrel it  is better than before  I choked it, and shorting your barrel makes the rifle less hold sensitive because the pellet stays in the barrel a shorter time helping to lessen the after recoil. howie  PS I do happen to like shorter rifles anything over 42 inches is a little long for me, but that is me .

What I have is a nicro press tool left from when I used to do boat work in a boat yard it is used to press nicro press fittings on wire rope and I use it to choke my barrels What I do is use a inch tork wrench to get the same pressuer all around the barrel , I place the tool at the mussel tie or just behind the front sight and tighten the tool to 200 inch lbs. then move it 180 deg. and re tork it to 200 inch lbs again nice and simple, see the pics. howie

We are looking at about 1000 th. of an inch just a little tight you can measure by pushing a pellet in the barrel a little ways then going from the muzzle  end and push it out this is the dia of the barrel befor the choke now to measure the choke just push a pellet all the way through the barrel and now mike the difference  between the pellet that went through the choke and the pellet that only went part way into the barrel ( not through the choke )  is the amt of choke in thousands. howie ps no I don't do side work someone found this tool for fencing as well as boat work it would be cheaper to buy the tool than to ship a gun both ways.

I went and built a "tool" like this guys, and it worked on my RWS 850 Airmag after shortning. The accuracy came right back after the choking. Just make sure and go easy at first with the pressure, since I may have over choked mine, and lost some fps. But the accuracy is right on.

I have seen the tool at OSH hardware in the cable clamp department . Not very expensive either . You might look at Harbor freight too. I would think they would sell them . Marvin

I bought these #2 and #3 swaging toolsfor another project.I have not used my #3 tool to choke a barrel yet, but it looks like it would work.

Thanks for the links.  I think the bolt head version is in my future.  If you scallop out a bit of the working face like the cable crimper, you won't need as much pressure.

If you cut and reshape the breech end on the AirForce barrels, it leaves the factory choke and crown intact.

Ray, I think so. It sure looks big enough to me...I got it out when I provided the link and looked at it. But Howie I believe has actually used his, and I'm pretty sure he has a #3 there in those pics he posted. Its funny you say that about adding one more tool to your collection, because thats what I thought when I bought the #2 and #3...might as well I said to myself. I've run up against needin one of those a couple of times in my homeowner projects. Good for swaging cable fittings, andchoking barrels too. Seems like it would leave a mark though
