AA S410 ERB at 1/4 Power - Click
« on: January 16, 2009, 10:23:00 AM »
Haven't really re-zero'ed the Gamo Hunter Elite/ 177 since she returned from Ed with the new Shadow Camo job.  So I braved the 32F cold and re-zeroed the GHE, shooting JSB Exacts at 30 yards, changed targe and then shot the 10-shot group in the center bull - blue hits.  Not too shabby for me.  So I picked up the BSA Scorpion / 177  with JSBs and printed 10 rounds in the UL bull - green hits.  Hmmm, I think I should be able to do better, but not too bad.  Then, I decided to shoot the AA-S410 / 22 and turn down the power -- to the 1/4th setting.  Then I shot 10 rounds of Beeman FTS at the UR bull - red hits.  The POI was about 1.5 inches low (partially shooting out the target's number xxx766).  Without changing the zero of the scope, I shot a 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th 10-shot group at 30 yards, same 1/4 power setting, 50 shots total off a 300 BAR fill.  The AA had been waiting patiently, though, in freezing temps while I was shooting the Gamo and the BSA.  The 2nd group was aimed at the center bull, the third at the UL.  The 4th and 5th were shot at the UR and LR respectively, but compensating for the low POI with the mil dot.  The AA started at 200 BAR and finished at a little less than 150 BAR, but the last two groups were clearly beginning to open up, and I don't think it was me.  At 1/4 power, the AA doesn't even make the pfffftt noise.  All I hear is a click and a very soft spring noise (the hammer spring dropping?  don't know too much about the internals of PCPs), and the thump of the pellet hitting the target trap.  Hard to believe how quiet it is at that setting.  Don't know the velocity -- I am guessing maybe 600 - 650 FPS -- but it was definitely shooting one-hole, dime size groups at 30 yards off a front rest for at least one 10-shot string.  And that's as good as I have ever done with an air rifle at 30 yards (so far).

Ps:  Hmmm, seem to have an extra hit in the UR target, but I am sure it was a 10-shot group as it was a full mag.

Those are the Edelmann 5-bull 10 -meter targets.  Turns out that they are the same size as the Gamo targets that drop in Pogo Timmy's pellet traps.  BTW, I am still looking for another of Timmy's pellet traps in this size.  He keeps slipping away before I can pin him down and get him t send me one.

Hmmmm, shooting 10mm targets at 30 yards..:(  Well I guess I wil have to bow out of that shooting event with you Tommy..:( I could barely see those dots at 10 meters let alone at 30 yards.

Yes, but the black bulls are 30 mm in diameter, and the 10-meter bulls are meant to shoot standing or 3-position, with diopter sights, not off a rest with a good scope.  I have seen you shoot, Gene.  No worries.  You can hit the bull on these 4 sure!  At $48 per 1000, the are actually about the same price as the Gamo's at $5 per hundred, and you get a better target with 5 bulls instead of one.  I will bring you a few the next time I see you.

Hummm, lets see 600-650fps with a .22 cal. , that's just about 12fpe if my calculations are right. Close anyways . I think you maybe on to something there. Nice shooting. kirby

Yep...very decent shooting at those distances...especailly in the cold....you sure you're not shaking from the cold while squeezing the trigger?
