Muzzle Brake.
« on: January 23, 2009, 10:59:15 AM »
I got my new TKO muzzle brake today and wow what a differance in sound levels. I'm not sure if it's effecting the fps. at all but I know I don't have the nieghbors threating to call the cops. I also suspect that it needs a second barrel band towards the muzzle since you have to remove the factory sight and support.

The small brake with the sight that you removed should not have been touching the barrel . It was probably very close but there should have been clearance there . It was not a support so you should not have to add another to take its place. Marvin

Ok I just noticed how it was machined to fit around the resevoir. Upon close inspection it seems that with out the factory brake there appears to be somw barrel droop from the barrel band to the muzzle. I'll have to set up a target tomorrow and see if its still shooting straight.
 Thanks

Cruizer - thanks for the input on the TKO brake.  I just ordered one yesterday.  What size did you get?  I ordered a 6.5" carbon fiber wrap.  I'm trying to be pro-active with the brake to keep the neighbors happy.

I have a .22 Discovery coming from Cabela's via special order.  I had some gift cards & a good coupon from Christmas, and they were quite happy to order one for me.  The down side is the 3-4 week delivery time, but I'm hoping to have it now in 2 weeks or less.

I have an R7 (.177) and one of the last Birmingham Webley Stingrays (.22).  I & my kids enjoy them, but I'm really looking forward to the (entry-level) world of PCP and non-hold sensitive rifles.

I live near Knoxville TN, FWIW.

Thanks for the info, Cruizer.  I look forward to getting both the brake & rifle.

I also enjoy  this forum - I've picked up a lot of good information from it, and plenty of good reading over in the Hunting Gate.

I have 2 of these for my 2 discos.  They work well and do not effect the accuracy.   Both Discos are quiet and can be shot all day in my backyard with no complaints.  Of special note, when combined with an HDD all I hear is a "click".   The effect is synergistic.   I have the one without the HDD set up for power and that one is very quiet.   Sounds like a staple gun.  I have found that a barrel band (with o-ring) close to the brake maintains a constant alignment with the scope.

contact Doug W at dougwitkowski@netscape.net.  Cost is $24 including shipping.  He ordered some from Crosman, he takes out the set screw on the top and cuts a groove in it to fit an O-ring.   This holds the barrel in place.  The bottom part that goes around the air tube remains the same.   Before you tigthen it down I'd cut up a piece of plastic (like a film negative) and put it under the air chamber so when you tighten the set screw it does not leave a mark on the bottom of the tube.

On mine, you can only hear the mechanical noise of the hammer hitting the release valve... then you hear the pellet hitting the trap.  that's it.
