Looking for new glass....
« on: January 26, 2009, 06:24:27 AM »

Hello folks.

I've had enough of my Barska 6.5X24X50 on my Talon SS. I've upgraded the gun over the winter with 18" barrels and after trying to sight it in today at 40 yards with the Barska I've realized that it won't do. Image clarity is sub-par and if you are not in the perfect spot in the scope you get fisheye or black.

I've been looking for several days at different scopes at different vendors and I cannot make up my mind. I hope you folks might be able to help me.

What I'm looking for is the following:

4 to 6 by UP TO 24 power (Minimum X18)with good clarity. Larger Objective than 40mm would be preferred.

Adjustable Objective is a must. Sidewheel would be a plus but not necessary.

It will be on a PCP with minute recoil and held by a Beeman adjustable 1 piece mount.

It will be used for target shooting out to 100 yards and hunting out to 70 yards.

It won't be used past dusk but the hunting will often be at or just before dusk so illumination is not required.

It cannot be a Barska or a Leapers. I'm done with both of those companies forever.

Mil-dot is a must.

Here's the real catch......Has to be under $150 shipped. That's all I have.

I have looked at Simmons, Bushnell and BSA. There are a couple from each company in this range of requirements but I'm hoping for suggestions or recommendations from you folks.

So...what do you think?

Greg, if you can add just a little bit more to your budget, you can get a Bushy Legend 5-15x40 AO mil dot.  Sorry, Joe, I had a Hawke, wasn't that impressed with the optics, sold it and got the Bushnell.  I put the Bushnell second only to my old Simmons 44 Mag, I think it's a hell of a bang for the buck.  Just did a scope trade with Gene, I needed a compact scope and that new Burris he got wasn't working for him, otherwise the Legend would still be on my Cyclone.  Both the Legend and the 44 Mag are too big for the new to me AA S200 I got in trade for my S400.  I think you'd be really happy with the Legend.  Later.
