sights for IZH 46M
« on: January 27, 2009, 04:05:00 AM »
Well, I feel special... first post in this gate! If there are any other match pistol shooters out there, I'm looking for an opinion on sights: I can't seem to get very precise with the iron sights, and the Hawke red dot I've been using tends to "bleed", even on the lowest setting. Are there good aftermarket iron sights or any reliable optic solutions out there?

Hello Jason,

You didn't say if it is your eyes that are the problem or not ?

I have noticed that the bleeding with red dot scopes can be caused by plastic lenses in you eye glasses, and when used in an area lit by fluorescent lights it can become worse. There are better red dot sights, but they are expensive. Look for the ones that are used by the top target shooters.

I hope this helps

As Bill said...could be your eyes.

#1. How is your hold and trigger pull?  If these are not good or at least decent, you need to work on these.

#2. What color/shade is the target and paper.  If you don't have enough light on the target, the front sight won't have enough contrast to be easily seen.

#3. Can you easily FOCUS on the FRONT sight.  I my case, I could not.  If you can't focus on the front sight, you can't aim well.  I had to have a glasses made so I could focus on the front sight, and still see the target.

#4. What is the ratio of the visible width of the light on both sides of the front sight blade compared to the front sight.  The 2 standard for target shooting are 1:2:1 and 1:1:1.

Try these

They will help you block out other sources of light and allow you to focus on just your sights. For 10 meter match or silly wet targets just make sure you line up everything at the 6 oclock position on the target. You want to see above where your actual impact will be.

While I'm still waiting for my IZH 46M, it is my understanding that the rear sight can be flipped to a narrower slot, and there is a narrower front blade that comes with the gun.
