The first postal Challenge!
« on: January 28, 2009, 06:36:22 AM »
So who is up for a postal challenge? The name of the game is honesty folks, and being the best airgun forum in the whole wide world, and  I think we are all honest people, so how about it! Lets show the Dark Side what we can do! (Well you guys anyway, I've got some work to do on my offhand shooting style but I'll give it a go for a laugh!)
As I haven't worked out how to post a target you can all download, anybody care to pick a target for me?

Okay. I'm in. What are the rules, end date etc?
I think government is a necessary evil, like, say, motion-picture agents.

No fighting, no pulling hair, no blowing rasberries when somebodys about to take a shot! Apart from that, A free for all!
First, we need a target! How about the 10m air rifle targe on this site?

http://www.gamecalls.net/free_stuff/52_free_targets.html

So that's 15 shots offhand at 10 meters!
maximum of 20 miniuts to complete the whole 15 targets!
entries to be in by Monday morning so that we can all shoot at the weekend! (late entries will be laughed at!)
Targets will be inward gauged!
11 for a clean bull, 10 for a touching the bull, followed by 9,8,7. Maximum score of 165
And on the target write what gun, pellet, etc....
No multiple entries!
And anymore rules that you care to add!

Only pistols that are sprung, no PCP stuff and as for two's and one eyed jacks, only if you can shot the eye out of the jack at 10M offhand! You get a bonus 10 points towards your score!

What about sights?  I have scopes on all my rifles, and the iron sights on my Gamo suck!  I'm figuring it's enough challenge just shooting offhand, what say the rest of you?

I'm scoped up aswell! How about the first challenge being open to all sights, scope, open, dioptic, what ever you prefer!

You guys are on steroids or something.LOL
So, we need targets that are the same and as I recall some printer settings may make the size vary slightly.
You may want to do a little trigger work and some dryfire with a rifle that you can actually dry fire so that you can see what you are doing for a few days before we start anything. A bolt action 22 rimfire with a spent case in the chamber is a good choice.  Watch yourself flinch and blink a few times.  I think the guys that shoot pcp's have a good chance of already having dealt with that, but it is really to your advantage to find a way to dryfire.  You want to make that trigger click and not blink, flinch or jerk.

Good call, Charlotte, I know I need some practice, I almost always shoot from a bench.  How about we schedule this for NEXT weekend.  Besides, isn't the Superbowl this weekend?  Sounds good otherwise.

BTW, the target that Truman listed is a PDF, as long as we all download it from the same site, we should be fine for size.  I happen to already have that one on my computer, but I'll download from the same site to do a check on what I just said.  I'll let you all know if there's a difference.  Later.

It is for the Springer Air rifle, but being a friendly first comp, I think we could let the Springer Pistols have a bash aswell! What say you guys! Another thing has popped up too! It's Superbowl this weekend so if you guys fancy pushing the end date to Sunday 8th Febuary at Midnight then it will give us all a bit of time to dust off our favorite shooting hats aswell!

As for the standardization of the target size, I've just printed off the target and measured the size of the outer black ring! It comes in at 24mm with the bull at 6mm!

I myself, will be shooting with my .22 Gamo Maxima

Got me an IZH46 and a Gamo Compact.

I got to shoot a P55 years ago. Nice guns for sure but more than I wanted to pay since I was doing well with mine.
