My 1st air rifle mod!!!!
« on: January 28, 2009, 09:58:09 AM »
Well almost!! LOL's Changing out parts like stock bolts, and filling scope holes withAllen-heads doesn't count I guess?!?!?! Before the Holidays this past year, I inquired on this gate about lessening the trigger pull on my Benji 392 rifle. So first things first. I'd like to thank Dave2288 and AirgunAndy for the tips and heads up on how to perform this task!!ManyThanks Bro's!!!!!Being me, I went ahead and made a copy of the schematics just to make sure Iwouldn't inadvertantly lose any parts. I was amazed at how simple the trigger mechanism is with these classic rifles. A 760 seems like a major undertaking in comparison!!! I didn't get that chroney from Santa this year,...but I did get a dremil tool. Buuuuut, I didn't have a tip that would work,....and this is probably a good thing! So I did it the old fashionned way. I had a 3/16" chain-saw file in my play-house, took the sear and placed it in the vise in a position that I could use the sideofthe viseas a guage to keep the fileing straight and true. Then I went to work!! I managed to give it a slight dip, and knock off the stamp markings like thesear Isaw in the picture of a trigger site one of the guys prompted me to. After that, I took the rear spring and compressed itbetween my thumb and finger for about five minutes,....to be honest, I doubt this did any goodin lessenning the tention, but it was worth a shot I thought. Finally I took a tooth pix and lubed all the metal contacting points. Didn't have any moly on hand So I decided to try some "Primis" light viscosity lube gel I used on my old cross-training bycycle. Put it back together, re-installed it and about all I can say is,......Holy Crap!!!!! Before I did this Mod, the trigger was like our friend Bob says, "like pullin' a plow". Now it's like "smooth and easy". Finally I can get this scope zeroed in with out that old stiff trigger giving me fits!!!!!!Eureka!!! My thanks again to Dave and Andy!!!! Let's go shooting!!!!!!tjk

Amen to that Bro'!!!! Now if I can just adjust the tension on the bolt lock-up I think we'll be in business! I got it sited in at about 1/2" at eight yards with 5 pumps, but when I tightened the bolt locking plate, the poi dropped low a bit. Too much an the bolt won't close,..too light and it will flap a bit. I'm not sure, but looking at the cam action of the plate and how it operates,  I'm not sure if it seals the O-ring tighter giving more power or less preasure leakage. We'll get her figured out sooner or later. Thanks again Andy!, tjk
