Help!
« on: January 30, 2009, 10:14:46 AM »
Well I knew it would happen. I got this old Chinese side lever airgun and decided I wanted to 'practice' with it tuning. I read the Fast Deer tune instructions, but mine has an extra part that is giving me fits on re-assemble.

Here are the parts

Go ahead and rub iit in while your at it. I deserve it. But I would really like to get the gun back together.

Can you help me out???

I don't even know if it is a Fast Deer. It's all in Chinese.

It's a fast deer I've had 2 of them and I had mine apart more than once what do you need ,  If you go to the library top left green , just click on it and go down about 23 of the way on the left you will see tuning the fast deer this will be a help. howie  PS there are no extra parts all the parts are needed , You don't show the side lever or the 2nd anti bear trap parts.

My parts don't mach the ones in the Library. No small hair like spring. Trigger is different. Has an extra sliding bar.

I'm sure there is a sequence of re-assembly that I'm missing and won't take long if I can get past step one.

Did you get the rifle when it was all together or did you take it apart.do you have a picture of the extra part? When I look at the pic. of the parts it might be that you have an older version of the fast deer since the trigger in the pic. shows 2 parts to the trigger my trigger was a one piece part yours looks as if their is a sear that goes into the trigger something like a B3 trigger.and the thin wire is part of the 2nd anti bear trap asse. it is possible if this is an older mdl. it might not have had the 2nd bear trap safety. I could most likely figger out how to put it together if I had if in front of me, but on line I'm not sure.Is their some one that lives close enough to give you hands on help'

Thanks for responding and trying to help so fast fellows.

howie1a, the gun was together when I got it and I did not take notes or pictures like I should have when I tore it down..........

Any way, I got it back together and it shoots great. Real smooth compared to what it once was.

Lesson learned for sure.

This gun doesn't even have a safety on it. No telling how old it is. The guy at work said they paid $20.00 for it at a gun show years ago.

Mine had a safety on it it uas a lever that went through the stock with a flat cut into it for the back of the trigger when you turned it it blocked the trigger from moving backward. howie ps they shoot great I could  stack pellets with both of the ones I had.

It's not a Fast Deer, it looks like one of those "SnowPeaks" I think they were called.  It's close, but no cigar.  I think the "extra" piece you are talking about is the trigger sear, the regular old Fast Deer has a one piece steel trigger with a direct sear, yours appears to have two pieces that do pretty much the same thing, but one is the actually sear and the other is a rolled sheet steel blade.  I've never had one apart, but I had one for a short while as well as a Fast Deer (that I took apart a billion times), they look almost identical, but there are minor differences....does the forend have a kinda "swoop" to it, or is it more of a gentle taper from trigger to snabble?  The trigger is the other difference, as well as the little "SnowPeak" insignia that you show in your picture.  I guess I am no help in "how to re-assemble", but I know what I'm looking at....hehe, sorry pal.

Thanks Dano!! I finally figured it out, right before I was going to throw it in the ditch by my house and call it a total failure.

Snow Peak?? Who would of thunk it. Never heard of them before. The trigger catches onto the end of the piston shaft when the gun is cocked. I polished both contact points real good with 600 grit and used no lube. Not sure if I was supposed to or not but figured with no safety and smooth metal to metal contact I would be alright.

Here is a pic

The gun came with the sling. I think I'm going to try and talk the guy out of it so he doesn't give it to his grandson. I don't like it not having a safety and the boy is only 8. All of my match guns have no safety so I'm used to it.

Yea, had one for about 3 weeks, never did anything with it but lean it against the wall in my garage.  Friend of mine gave it to me to use with my boys, I decided I'd rather learn them on pumpers with safeties instead of Chinese pot metal of dubious quality.....it'd be one thing if I hurt myself, but would be totally different if one of my kids got hurt because I cheaped out.  I shot it half a dozen times just to see how it felt, then leaned it against the garage wall.  Same friend was at my house after doing some shooting a few weeks later and we were unloading the car.  As we unloaded I put the little SnowPeak back in his car and it drove away:)  I'm not saying they aren't great shooters, my Fast Deer was a one holer, I just didn't plan on shooting it much...by that time in my airgun addiction I was about 17 springers full and didn't see the use of adding another.  They are like Fast Deers with far fewer features, if that's possible.  I think the rear sight is welded on and there aren't any scope grooves.....could be wrong, Ron would know I guess.  No safety, same trigger for the most part, and the stock has that swoopy forend.

Oh yea, it does have sling swivles too, Fast Deer doesn't IIRC.  Mine didn't have a sling though, just the swivels.

If you read my post to Howie you'll see that I totally agree, kids and this gun do NOT go together, my kids never shot mine...and neither did I really.

Yep, the rear sight is welded.

I'm gonna test drive it tomorrow to see what it will do.
