Went to AOA today
« on: January 30, 2009, 10:20:26 AM »
Went to AOA today and just got back.  WOW! What a pleasure ride that was.  I was in Disneyland, pellet gun style.  What a huge advantage I had in buying my first PCP.   Robert the owner met at 8:30am this morning and we went inside the gun store.  My eyes were as big as could be.  Pellet guns everywhere.  Some of the best in the world.  BSA, FX, Day state, RWS, Beamans etc. etc.  Robert says shoot anyone you want for as long as you want and chrony each if you want.  Started with the Day state lineup. These Day states are not on his web site because they are brand new.  All with Harper valves.  Kip (I believe his name was, the one on the video's all the time then took over.  Started with the Air Ranger 50FPE, the X2, Merlin line and the brand new Huntsman Classic.  Then the BSA's.  Then the FX's.  All the time Kip stayed with me answering any questions and I had a lot.  After hours of shooting and chroning the decision were between Air Ranger, Huntsman classic and the FX Cyclone.  Air Ranger to much FPE (was afraid accuracy would suffer), Huntsman best handling rifle of all brands but only 23FPE so after much deliberation I decided on the FX Cyclone.  Adjustable power settings, extremely quiet and one hole shooting at 20 yards.  Added a 45cc bottle to existing air chamber, tube clamp for slings and bi pods and scope rings.  I had a Elite 3200 5x15x40 scope to mount and mano mano what a gun.  Awaiting fiber tank and hose from Joe Brancato, next week.

And the addiction continues.......................................

If this is a 4,500 psi carbon tank -- and you don't have a second stage regulator -- be **very** careful to **just** crack the valve ... slooooooooowwly.   You can blow the rifle steem stop walvs in a heartbeat.

What a lucky man you are!!!! Most of us can only dream about a trip like that and shoot all those guns. Well, I guess, when I am gonna die that's where I am going- a place full of air guns and you can shoot them all forever :)
Have a happy time with your new rifle!

MeHavey - Thanks for the advice, I did not know that.  I'll look for a second stage regulator.
Their was an old guy standing outside the store when he came up to me and said "gonna buy one of them there
bb guns are you? Yes sir. How much are they gett'in for them?  Oooo around $1400. Not one second past  He said, " God Dang son are you absolutely out of your mind?". $1400 dollars for a BB gun? Hec, I used to get 'em for $5. You must be on drugs?  No sir, just a BB gun addict.  This man caught me completely by surprise.  He was mad at his son for buying one for $200.
Stocks:  I looked at all the walnut stocks and I swear to god I thought they were plastic.  Not what I expected at all.  What ever they coat it with feels like plastic to me not a true walnut stock.  I guess it's just me.  I bought a synthetic stock.  Just over 5 lbs.

I foresee many happy hours of shooting ahead, Paul :-)!  That must have been one damn tough choice, though.  Mike had a good point, but the alternative to a second stage reg would be a needle valve.  Mike, if I'm wrong, jump in here.  Only reason I bring it up, I have a 6K psi needle valve I don't need any more, it's yours if you want it.  Call it a gun warming present :-).  Let me know, and congrats on an excellent choice.  Later.

Needle valve -- anything to give you fine control over the flow upon/as opening the main valve -- would sure help.
Just remember that even w/ a needle valve the pressure will keep climbing unless you shut it down at/before max

Congrats Paul!! I know you very carefully considered all your options for a new rifle. I'm glad you got the right one for you. What a great opportunity to go to AoA and get to spend all that time choosing just the right new shooter. So many of us would just love to have the opportunity to go to a great shop like that one, or any of the other good shops.

Peakchick I can remember you saying something like I didn't realize you lived so close to AOA on another thread.  You suggested I go there. Boy I'am glad I did.  Now when you guys talk about your pellet guns I have probably shot them with the exception of AA guns which is real popular everywhere.

The hunting I will go................

Great choice Paul.  You're really going to like that Cyclone....read lots of good things on her.  If only the Daystate Air Ranger...the 50 FPE one had adjustable power control........  You experienced something lots of airgunners have not experienced.....testing and enjoying all those excellent high-end shooters.  Can you see the light hint of green on our faces?  heh heh
