NEW FORUM------ Machinest Gate-- ----------

On January 1st, we will be opening our newest forum. "Machinist Gate"

Hope this will bring even more enthusiasm to the GTA. We have asked KIXX to Moderate this forum initially and will ask for some more help after it gets going.

On behalf of Gene, Bob and myself I'd like to extend a hardy welcome to all those who love the art of metal working to the New Machinist Gate on January 1st of 2007. I'm sure we will all learn alot and with the help of many of those who like to post their work on projects we should not have a shortage of material to cover our interests.

Ok Guys, I have put a name up on the top for the new Forum Gate. If anyone has a good suggestion on what the title should be, speak up before the 1st of January.. Or it stays like it is... hehe

Remember this is your forum and what ever name you feel fits the bill will be the name we use. It will be a combination of wood, sheetmetal and machineing. Any Ideas?

Me likes that it includes wood and sheet metal too, now I wont feel so left out when you guys show off the parts you make on those lathes and mills.  Awsome new gate, I am looking forward to seeing what people can make!  Thanx Gene:)

How about just call it  "The Shop".  Thats where we all do our best work is in the shop right? That seems to be pretty logical... The Shop sounds kinda user friendly..;~)

Well whatever its called its still gonna be fun.. I am sure anyone who enters will learn and enjoy the new gate.

*Note: I myself will not be able to be a moderator for this new gate as my wifes health and my own have need of our full attention.  I wish you all the very best in the New Year with this forum.

We wanted to put something up at least temporarily so as to be sure that everyone knew that it was still alive.

Dave (Kixx) and I had a nice phone conversation the other day and we discussed the issues that he may encounter while applying the "duties" of the moderator for the new gate and both Gene and I understand. He did say that he would act as a co-moderator in support of  "The Shop" if needed with the understanding that it would be limited depending on circumstances within the family and for that we thank him.

With that being said, we now need some nominations as well as an acceptance of another person (or volunteer) that would be the moderator for "The Shop". I think it would be important that the person have some hands on shop experience if possible, with no self interest involved. You can either submit it on the forum here or send it to either Gene or I in a PM or e-mail. Though my metal work is limited, I am excluding myself from that position (other than executive GTA moderator) so there would be no possibility for conflict of interest or claim of self promotion.

Also, the startup date may be delayed for a few days as Gene had to go to the West Coast as a very close friend of his passed away. Sorry to hear this Gene.

OK guys....this is your forum so speak up. Where do we stand and who is it going to be.

Perfect name " The Shop"   Now who wants to moderate us down this road of spinning metal and piles of shavings. I know we have some great shop rats on here and I say, Use what talent you possess: the woods would be very silent if no birds sang except those that sang best. Ed

"the shop" sounds fine to me.   think I will go out in mine right now too.  just got boring bars and have made holders for them so I am good to go to make me a brand new CO2 valve of my design.   john

Hey Joben..... just a few more days. Gene had to go out of town unexpectedly and should be back from the west coast in another day or so and we'll get started on it. Maybe by this weekend. I wish he would hurry up also so we can meet at the halfway house and git sum stuf ironed out...lol...

Also, we are still looking for more nominations or volunteers for the moderator for the new forum.

I got stuck for 18 hours in my travels and did not get back until yesterday Fri. 05..
