My BSA LoneStar .22 Is one Hard Hitting Moma
« on: February 07, 2009, 08:27:24 AM »

Had a chance yesterday to sit down and shoot my new BSA LoneStar .22. I have to say I was totally surprised at the accuracy and performance of this Beast..:) The BSA LoneStar is not much bigger than my BSA Ultra but really packs a wallop. I was never able to get a full fill of 3000psi because my tanks are only 3000 psi tanks and with the weather getting cooler the pressure dropped. So I was getting around 2600 to 2700 psi. "Estamated:". My first shot with Gamo Hunters .22 at 15.3 gr was supersonic. But accuracy at 20 meters was under 1/2". I was having a bad day already cause I had a couple to many cups of coffee and could not settle in very well.

So after I shot about 60 pellets off I decided to check the chrony from a full fill of around 2700 psi. Here is the string I got.

Fill that puppy up to 220 BAR Gene, and try some JSB Exacts 15.9 gr, or the new 18 gr. Those .22 BSA do pack a whallop!

Yeppers Ed, she will be a keeper for sure. My FX Cyclone shoots almost as hard on a full fill. But what I have seen so far is that the FX just might have and edge on the accuracy of the BSA LoneStar.. I need to dig my FX out and shoot some with her as well.

Good info seeing real folks numbers, do fill that puppy up to 220bar and do try the 18g JSB or something nice and heavy I'll bet you like it.
BSA makes great barrels (anyone have a spare laying around ?) which seem to shoot most pellets well indeed and "the" right pellet should be super nice bench groups. My FT & Squirrel hunting buddy has the Sportsman HV he has worked on a bit, various springs/fills/barrels/other and I beieve it is now back at factory settings, 220bar and shoots like gangbusters.

How about a picture of yours?

I found that my FX is the most accurate rifle I've owned yet, although it hasn't been shot against my S200 yet.  It edged out my S400E, and easily beat my Talons.  I'm sure part of it's barrel, but I think a big part is the FX valving.  They have a well deserved reputation for very good valves, I've seen people post shot graphs with regulated guns that were no better than some of the strings I've gotten with my Cyclone.  They're expensive rifles, but the more I see of other guns, the more I believe they're worth it.  Doesn't take anything away from your new baby, though ;-).  Later.
