Mushrooming???
« on: December 21, 2006, 01:42:15 AM »
Seems my eldest Shadow (about 3 years old - not all that much use on it) is "mushrooming" a bit, at the top of the compression tube right where the tube and the breach block meet (above the transfer port). The top of the breach block has a slight matching indentation where the receiver hits it.

Obviously, those parts have been hammering each other. It ain't too bad, there's no 'barrel lift' from it. I doubt it's from closing the breach (I use my hand, not a hammer for that!), I'm guessing it's just from the piston slamming home.

Has this happened to anyone else?

What does the breach seal look like , condition wise. I'm just wodering how far the damage will go back through the chamber, the chain reaction effect ??. Ed

Not to worry three of mine have the same thing, it's because the barrel pivot block is not square with the breach when closed. If you look at the pivot block you will see where the barrel block hits to set the barrel angle. This is where you can file off a little metal to cure barrel droop if you have that problem.

May I also assume that as the parts get mushed together the actual contact area between them increases and it eventually stabilizes... that is, it doesn't get any worse after a certain point?
