My GAMO 890 finally arrived :)
« on: December 21, 2006, 12:02:52 PM »
for the past 3 days I've been tracking the .177 cal 890 I ordered from Cabelas for $129 and it finally arrived this afternoon.  I am one happy camper  :D

The bluing on the gun is nice and dark and consistent.  The raised scope rail is nicely welded on, placed dead center on the receiver and perfectly straight.  The stock is beautifully stained and doesn't have any marks, scratches or blemishes whatsoever.  The rifle is really beautiful to the eye and when shouldered it feels wonderfully balanced to me.  This gun when shouldered feels as good to me as my R9 Goldfinger does.  I'm absolutely thrilled with the gun, especially for $129 bucks.

The BSA 3x12x50 AO scope that came with it has a bright clear image, the cross hairs are dark and crisp and the AO and power dials turn nice and smooth.  I have the same scope on one of my S1k's and love it so I know I will like it on the 890.

I have 2 more days to work so I won't get to clean the gun, set up the scope and shoot it until my days off, but I"m really looking forward to shooting it and getting some chrony results.  When I do I'll post the results.  Good shooting all.

...and I thought my $95 440 refurb was a good buy.

Although the only thing I wouldn't like about it is the lack of open sights. Is the breach block drilled and tapped for them?

Don't be surprised if the rifle twangs a lot, and if the trigger feels pretty bad. The trigger will improve with shooting.

Yes, the breech block is drilled and tapped for sights.  As for the trigger I will shortly be ordering one of CDT's triggers to correct that problem.  As for the "twang",,,,, guess I'll see how pronounced that is, but I got used to it on my S1k's so it don't bother me all that much as long as the rifle shoots well.
