Cheap China Springer?
« on: February 13, 2009, 02:28:47 AM »
I'm looking to pick up another cheap china shooter for fun. I have a B3-1 and had fun putting that together.

Anyone have a suggestion on another inexpensive china springer with a good trigger worth picking up?

How bout an XS-B3-1 , it's the side cocker that looks like the AK-47.  It's basically the same powerplant setup as the regular B-3 so the QF-2 rebuild kit works in it.  I won't say it has a "good" trigger,,, but it can be worked on some to smooth it out a bit.

Neat little guns.  I have 1 in .177 and 1 in .22 cal and both turned out to be great shooters and great little backyard hunters.  Archers also sells some neat accessories for them as well if you want to dress em up a bit....

Try the ak47 lookalike.  They are quite fun .   http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=213776

I agree with magnum.  The AK look-alike is a great little rifle.  Very solid and accurate. Folding stock. Trigger pull is very hard.  But overall a good buy.

Hey guys, i completely agree with you. But do you guys know that now the new AK47 look alikes are being produced by Bam? I got the old one in .177 and i love it. The other day i saw a shipment of the new ones at Cobra Airguns and took a .22 out to see how it did. Well what a surprise. The seals are nicer, the spring is smoother while cocking and the rifle shoots quietly and smoothly. And it was dieseling... After about 30 or so shots, i cleaned the barrel and it stopped dieseling alltogether. So I grabbed the chrony and some RWS hobbies and shot them at an average 560 fps. That is quiet nice. But the real eye opener was that the trigger was way smoother than the one in the old one. I worked mine and got it to be better, but these new Bam ak47 lookalikes have a trigger that is 10 times better than my worked trigger. Still 1 stage, but a smooth and predictable stage. so yes, get one in.22 or .177 (mine shoots 7.9 cpl at an average 730 fps,and hobbies at 765ish).

I have a B3-1 too, and to compliment it, I have a QB-57.  I love that little gun, and have done some things to it to make it better.
It looks awesome, fits in an included suitcase, its a take down, and archer sells barrels/parts for it, so you can have one power assembly with two barrels.

check it out!

So who made the old(er) versions? Industry? I never paid attention to mine for any markings. Mine is older so I know it's not a BAM version. I wonder if there is anyway to tell  them (the newer from older)apart?

yeah, in the top of the tube the old ones have a large chinese symbol and is says made in china below that. The new Bam has Bam stylized by the breach slide the way they have it on a B26 for example. The blueing is of a better quality also. Even the paint seems applied more evenly, but it still requires to be removed as it looks cheesy...

I'm wanting to install a Tapco T6 collapsible AK stock and SAW grip on mine, and modify it to accept an actual AK forend.

Pellettrap.com has the AK47 look-alike XS-B3-1 for around $58. I think I've seen it even cheaper.  It would be a good project gun. I've got one. No mods yet. Shoots straight. But the trigger is terrible. Just improving that would make it a great little rifle.  The gun is solidly built.

Are they even in business?

Every time I go to their site, all the prices read $0 and most of the links forward to the B50 page, regardless of what item you click on...

I don't think Pellet-trap is in business anymore......   their website has been defunct for quite some time.

As for the $24 B-3 from Amazon.com  ,,,,,,   they are great little rifles and are absolutely perfect for some to practice their tuning skills on.  I have 3 of them, all home tuned, and they all turned out great.  They shoot pretty decent right out of the box but with some TLC they turn into really nice little shooters quite capable of taking out small game at reasonable ranges.  I've used all 3 of mine to take many a squirrel, starling and even pigeons.   Get the "QF-2" tune up kit and you're all set to go.  Of course remember,,,,,, build yourself a suitable "spring compressor" so that you can disassemble the gun safely.  Plans for the spring compressor can be found in the the GTA Library....

Pellettrap closed. I guess so.  Maybe I got my XS-B3-1 at archerairguns.  The old brain cell needs a re-charge. :p
