smokin deal
« on: December 25, 2006, 02:50:07 AM »
I also bought a 890S from Cabelas for $129.00 the other day.  I had seen it advertised many other places for $229.00 and higher.  This price also included a nice scope.  I haven't recieved my gun yet but have read many favorable comments about it.  I don't know how much the scope is worth but I'm wondering how much the gun itself actually costs to produce if they can sell them for that price?  I'm not complaining about the good price I got, just asking out of curiousity.  What do ya think?  I posted this question the other day on another site and only recieved one respose and he had wondered the same thing.

because I went to their site after your post and they were out. Good thing you called in early in the morning, because later that day they were out.

Sold out?....I'm not surprised

At that price it is almost like "buy scope get air rifle free".  That BSA scope retails at around $95.00 or so...to get that combo for $129 is practically a steal. You just purchased a scope and got a Gamo Hunter air rifle for about $35.00! 8)

That really was quite a steal.  I'm glad I ordered one as soon as I saw it.  One of the guys who works for me, who wanted to get his first air rifle, came to me and asked some questions and if I knew of any good deals and I showed him the Cabelas 890 for $129,  he came to work the next night and told me he ordered 2 of em, one for him and one for his son.  Good thing he ordered right away.

If the rain stops I will be taking the first shots and sighting in my new 890 tomorrow.  Can't wait.  Also looking forward to doing some squirrel hunting with it in the next few days.

Man, your not kidding.  I think I really must have got one of the very last ones.  I almost put it off too long.  I kind of thought they might sell out and then I would have regreted not ordering.  They must have sold a slug of those things at that price.  That brings me back to my original question of how they are able to offer the gun combo at that price.  Are they discontinuing this model and willing to take a loss or are they still making a little on the gun?  Whatcha think

I Think I Was One Of The First To Buy

I saw this a day or two after they went on sale. I wasn't really looking for a .177 cal. gun but at the price I couldn't resist. A few days earlier I received a cupon from Cabelas for $20.00 off anything over $100.00 good until 12-25-06, I started to throw it away because I wasn't planning on ordering from them in the next few days. I'm certainly glad I didn't because with the cupon I got it for $109.00.

To make things even better after I got the rifle and cleaned and mounted the scope I found it to be one of the most accurate guns I have ever shoot bar none. Five shoot groups at 25 yds. with two different pellets that you could cover with a dime time after time. What a great Christmas gift to myself.

.....I got one of those $20off coupons in the mail a couple days ago too, but wouldn't you guess....no more 890's on their website!!!!

I live about 8 miles from a Cabelas store here in Fort Worth, and I'm really tempted to drive up to see if they have one laying around, but I think my wife and my checkbook are still upset about the $74 Shadow 1000 I bought a couple weeks ago:(

Just told my wife about this $109 thing, she is just sitting across the room grinning at me, god she's making it hard!

Discontinuing old model

The 890 is similar to the S1k and it seems as if GamoUsa is clearing out the older style models in favor of the ones with the shrouded/polymer coated barrels.  I had seen posts where Walmart was clearing S1k's for around $80.00 so it stands to reason.  I thought that was a good deal until I saw the post regarding the $129.00 890/scope combo at Cabelas.....now thats a deal.  It's hard to tell how much profit there still is in this price primarily because of the scope also.  My guess, is that they are close to the cost at what they (Cabelas) get them for, I doubt they would sell them at a loss......these aren't perishable items.  Just my opinion, anyway.

I'd go for it Dan!  With that coupon you're getting a scope with a gun attached to it for free :D

I agree Dan, go for it...... If the Mrs. is smiling isn't that a good sign???  On the way home just make sure you buy something for her that you know she'd like.  How could she frown on that????

Hehe, that wasn't the smile of "Go see if they have it in stock and get yourself one".  That was the smile of satisfaction knowing how bad I want one, but at the same time "if you go buy one I'll shove it so far..........".  I've learned alot about my wife, enough to know that I'd just as soon shoot myself than go buy another air rifle right now.  Somehow I still mess things up though, but this time I know better:)

In the past I have been lucky with the guns I buy, I'm talking about firearms not air guns. When I get ready to sale one I always get more mony for it than I pay for them. I bought a Browning BPCR in 45-70 cal. for $1000.00 and sold it a couple of yeras later for $2000.00. I make a point of letting my wife know that a good gun is a investment and I'm not buying them just because I can't resist the " just got to have one".

So now If I can't sneak one by her, she knows I'm buying it as an investment. I'm sure if you explain to her how much money you are saving by getting the 890 at such a low price and with the cupon she will understand. Give it a try, she might come around to thinking the same as you when it comes to buying new guns.
