got a gun for my wife.....
« on: December 25, 2006, 09:30:11 AM »

.....good trade?

I have been trying for months to get my wife to come out and shoot with me.  She always complains about the size/weight of all of my guns, then gives up and goes back inside.  Now she has one that was built just for her.  This was built from leftover parts and a little handiwork on my part, stats as follows:
14" .22 Crosman barrel
Crosman 2260 trigger group, painted silver for "bling"
Crooked Barn breach
Arts Shack steel bolt handle and extended probed bolt
2300 air tube, same thing as a 2240 tube, but it says "Crosman Custom" on it
Barrel shroud by Roy Weid of Mountain Air
Daisy 3x9x32 scope
and of course the stock is a cutdown 2260 stock that I reshaped and added bits of wood here and there till I got the shape I was after.  Finished off with rustoleum auto primer, rustoleum metal finish, then a final coat with Duplicolor metalic blue.  I will also clear coat this, but wanted it to be done and in this weather things dry slow.

Hey, how'd the picture of this ugly guy end up in here?  That's my new S1K with Tasco 3x9x32 attached.

Happy Holidays everyone!

That's a neat looking little rifle.
I did something like it for when the grand kids come over. I took an old QB78 I got from Mike M and sported it up for the kids. It's nice and light with a 14” barrel and a home made "Q"and it shoots great for them and they think the Red Cross hairs are cool so says my one of the kids, it has a cheap (eBay 28 bucks for two of them) 3X9X40 IR AO scope.

The stock is in purple with gold and sliver overspray highlites with black streaks done with a paint brush sprayed with black and final coats of polyurethane clear. I add a bulk adapter so I just hang a 25oz. bottle on it with a paint ball coiled hose and let them have at it.

WOW.  That is a good looking rifle.  Nice job on it.  I can't imagine the wife not being happy with it.

Thanks Shadow!

She likes shooting that one enough, but it'll be ALOT better when I can get her to hit a tin can out at the long distance of 10 yards....hehe!!!

I'm trying really hard to make a point of not trying to get my hands on that one so it stays "hers".  But it's so cute and shiney, sure is hard.  Gonna make another one for myself though, then we can talk about "whoes is better?"

Happy Holidays!

That looks pretty cool Rich!

I plan on doing a QB78 too, but first I have to think of a design:)

Take care and Merry Christmas!

Thanks, I enjoyed building it.  It's amazing what sorts of parts a person has laying around after 2-3 builds.  Wife is very happy with it, just gotta keep my own grimey hands off of it:)

moddest?  Hehe, I doubt that anyone would ever call me that with an honest look on their face...hehe!

Talented?  Basically I go out into the garage, start looking at the parts I have laying around, start putting them together and if they look good to me, then I have achieved what I was going for.

I was telling Rick Andres on the Crosman forum that sometimes I will get inspired by a car, or airplane, or something else that I think has nice lines and try to follow that.  This idea came from a plastic model of a 57' Chevy I built when I was a kid.  I don't have the model anymore, but candy apple blue and crome is an easy trend to follow:)  I'm willing to bet Gene, that with all of those model airplanes you built in the past you've got a few tricks up your sleeve too.  When you paint a stock rather than stain it you have the luxory of being able to glue on pieces of wood and filler without worrying about how the grain runs or the quality of wood you're using.  Just takes a little time and patience.  It's easy to do when you remember that if you mess up you can always head to the belt sander, sand the mistake off, glue on another chunk of wood and start over.

The next step is my QB78, NOT the one Steve Corcoran cut for me, my stock QB78.  I have some plans for that one!

Merry Christmas/New Years!

Hey if she doesn't want it we could pretend to be "brothers from different mothers" and you could give it to me for Christmas:)

All joking aside, while I've got your attention, are you still making the .25cal conversion QB78 kits? Bet a .25 QB would pack a serious punch!  Especially since I live here in the States where fpe doesn't matter:)

Hi Dan. er, Chrissy? not want a new gun? I don't think so!! Especially something like the 9mm Sumatra, tho I could live with a Quackenbush quite comfortably :p

Yup, still doing the barrel upgrades too. I have a .25 on order for my own PCP QB, well I thought it was about time! Yes they do pack a punch! I was out a couple of weeks back with someone who bought one of our rifles as a .25 then had a registered firearms dealer up the power and add it to his firearms certificate. he reckoned it was delivering about 22 fpe, with the unmentionable bulge on the end of the barrel (legal here) it was quiet too. A very impressive combination.

Have a word with Mike Melick if you want one in the USA ;)

Unmentionable bulge?  What did 100 pellets get stacked inside the end of the barrel and make it bulge like that?  Hehe, just kidding:)

Yuppems, I think Mike did mention that he was messing around with a .25 conversion a few months ago, I just happened to be perusing your website and it came to mind again so I thought I'd ask.  Maybe Mike is listenning?  Mike, Mike?  You making those .25 QB barrels for sale yet?  Huhm, hearing nothing...probably because it's about 2:30a.m. in his(and my) part of the world right now.  I really gotta quit taking those midday naps, it's turning me into a insomniac:)

Just out of curiousity, how slow would a 9mm pellet have to be going to be under 12fpe?  Must have a really loopy trajectory eh?

Take care,

Dan

I'm sure Mike will pick up on this when he surfaces. I think he mentioned he was doing one just recently.
9mm @12fpe is a waste of lead & gas imho. Assumeing a pellet weight of 80 grain then a mv of 259 fps would be the 12 fpe limit, max range about 50 yards and a trajectory like a lobbed brick.
The way around it in the UK is get get a firearms certificate, (FAC) once u have the air rifle on it, it can be taken as far as you like. A couple of the .22, 12fpe QB's I built are now on FAC. seems to be best with a PCP converison though, something to do with shots per fill and the cost of CO2 bulbs I think.....
