working on xs-b3-1ak .22
« on: February 20, 2009, 11:58:41 PM »
after a year and no use of this gun.i pulled it apart, main reason for the long time from working on it is,it is so hard to get the pin out.the trigger rolls around.the holes on the tube are out of round.well now to the story.after taking it apart i noticed that the seal is very tight inside the comp. chamber.i honed it out.still the same.question?seal is off center a several thou.will sanding seal down for a better fit ruin the seal?mebbee i could ream out the hole on the button a little,i have an extra button off a dead b3(not as good a quality)i also noticed that the transfer port hole is really large, can this hole be reduced to help w\comp.?reducing the seal size and port size should make a big difference, right?i want to make it shoot pellets that i cant see fly away.lol  apparently they use the same seal for these two guns, and more.was thinking about using a button for a b3 from airgunsmith and putting a seal off a different gun-mebbee jm has one small enough.if anyone has any ideas they will be appreciated.and if im wasting my time you can let me know that to.lol.  i need to find something to fill the area in the (end cap?)on this gun so i wont have all this trouble putting it back together, thats the part that made me almost throw this away last nite.same as the first time i took it apart.  thank you     jay

You might get a few more FPS when reducing the port size but I think the problem lies with the piston seal being off center. Is the seal leather or synthetic, if it's leather you should condition it for smoother function. You can try to reduce the diameter of the synthetic seal if that's what you have if you feel that it's to tight. Another cause may be a out of round compression tube. If you have a spare piston that is square you could use that onE. Several of us tinkered with port hole mod's awhile back, enlarging them etc and gained only a slight rise in FPS. Ed

i dont have any spare ak pistons.i reduced the diam.of the synthetic seal, its still snug.but not anywhere as tight as it was,it was very difficult to get the piston out of the comp. tube.the breech seal wont stay in the hole is larger than the seal.going to glue one in w\auto goop, mebbee i can use that to help it seal better when it fires.i believe that lost some power also.i'll try to find something to reduce port size and drill some of it out if necessary.the port size on my quest 800 isn't anywhere near that large.i know they aren't the same size piston wise but every little bit should help.just a project to while away a rainy day.thank you for the help shadow much appreciated.

well i got it back together!i got the pin in about 3 mins.i'm absolutely amazed.put some silicone grease on the seal, some hvy tar on the spring end.just a solid thud.dont know about the vel.i usually shoot at some trees about 40 yds. or so away and look for the pellet.but someone is parked over there, not their property.nothing i cant wait for.i know this will have to work cuz i am not doing this again.might not be so lucky next time.lol.was thinking about giving it to my cousin for a late b-day gift.will have to let him know not to leave it cocked.
