first post!
« on: June 22, 2006, 11:49:15 AM »

Just wanted to say hello. I have been a reader of YF, Chinese YF and Crosman forums for a few months now, but rarely post. I figured if I am going to visit a new forum(which looks great btw) I should probably say hello and introduce myself:) I started shooting AG's about 22 years ago when I was 12, but didn't own or shoot an "adult" air rifle until last xmas when the evil "AirgunEnvy" took me over after buying my two young sons Red Ryders for xmas. Of course I quickly ran out, bought myself an RWS M92, which was followed by a Fast Deer, then a B30, and now a Crosman Custom 2300 in .22 14" barrel, BSA Red Dot and a set of Rick Andres Camo laminate grips!!!! Yes, my sons are now the envious ones, but I do allow them a shot or two....once in awhile.....for a 1/2 share of their weekly allowances...Hey, pellets aren't cheap! :D

Anyways, all joking aside, great looking forum(s), hope to see great things come of this!

Dan

p.s. any airgunners local to Fort Worth Texas around here, I've been looking for a club, or a friend even that is local and wants to hunt plastic army men, or BBQ and shoot at bottle caps, or at least NOT laugh at me when I get excited about my "BBgun collection" like the "real" gun guys at work do.

Hi Dan,
There is nothing to be ashamed of. I have shotguns and beautiful hunting rifles, but I always prefer air gun shooting. It’s a stand alone, non comparable fun. I too, got my first air gun when I was 10-12 years old, back in 1969. I don’t remember the model, but it was German made (probably RWS), then the Russian Izh-22, with plastic stock. Since then I have a passion for air guns, but haven’t chance to shot them until recently. Now I’m looking for every chance to shoot my Gamo 440. What can I say - it makes me feel happy and 15 years old again.

Yea, maybe that's it, 12 years old all over again.  Back to a time before mortgages, car payments and taxes.  And as far as being ashamed of my hobby, not really, I just get these funny looks from the guys at work like those plastic figures on those Tractor Supply commercials,"Coy?", "Yea, Coy, Japanese carp....ya know, like giant goldfish","oh sweet fancy Moses!".  Hehe, funny stuff!  (if you've seen 'em ya know exactly what I'm talking about :)  I've had a couple of the guys over for some BBQ and "Big Game Hunting" a la WallyWorld plastic tiger figures, and they soon realize how hard it is to hit a 1" tall figure at 15yds with a "BBgun".  That's when the jokes usually stop, but I still haven't found anyone that's interested enough to start a club or even purchase their own guns...."You could buy a REAL gun for that price".  Oh well, I'm happy in my 12 year old haze all by myself...and with my actual 8 and 10 year old sons.  It's like I'm just a very large older brother...fun!

Maybe I've bunged up the forum somehow, but I swear I replied to Genes reply twice now...  Think I need more forum studying time;(

Dan, I'm here in the Arlington area and I've become acquainted with another AG'er in the TCU area, Ft Worth.  PM me and maybe we can organize a get-together or confab locally.  Problem is a location where we can shoot.  I think Haltom Gun club has some facilities but I'm not a member.
