GRTIII??
« on: February 23, 2009, 05:14:25 AM »
Anyone put one of these on a Hammerli Titan?  It seems, and it feels, like the Titan's trigger is pretty good.  However, I'm prone to go with the hype when it comes to my toys :)

Lost the manual after purchasing and the other day tried to play with the trigger adjustment.  Seems like there's only one.  When I went to feel her out with a screwdriver, I found the screw barely hanging on!  Don't know much, but maybe that's why the first stage was so loose.  It shot fine with a crisp, surprising sear release.  After tightening it a half turn or so, first stage actually has resistance to it and I'm not sure but second stage might have more as well.  Don't want to mess with it anymore but I kinda liked it better the way it was.  Anways, I'm not really sure what I'm adjusting (screw is behind trigger, adjusted through hole in trigger guard).  Wondering about putting that shiny gold GRT111, if it'll fit.

Your trigger is better than mine.  Mine have a gritty feel to it.  I also played around with the adjustment screw a month back.....at that time it needed more pressure before the sear released.  It's better now....but not the greatest.  I believe Gene have a nice Titan with a nice trigger.   Hopefully someone else can answer your question about the GRT III trigger.  If it fits and easy to install into the Titan, I'll install it....she's very accurate off-hand due to her weight....and she hits hard.

The Titan triggers are great after tuning them. Polishing the contact points will give you a nice lite first stage with a crisp break on second stage. I have tuned many of them and they are excellent after tuning.

Well Gene, I'd love to send this thing off to you for a complete tune.  Unfortunately I have 3 birthdays withing the next month to spend all my money on :(
Are there any good instructions / diagrams on taking care of that trigger somewhere?  Also, since you have experience in the matter, what exactly am I changing with that adjustment screw - weight of pull through both stages?

Jason I was not asking to tune it..:) Just implying how well the triggers are after tuning them. I have owned about 4 of the Titan variable models with same triggers and all have performed fantastic after tuning. You may even attempt to tune the trigger yourself. Would be a good learning experience.

I know you didn't ask, but I am interested in a complete tune someday - and it sounds like you're the man for the job!   Are there references anywhere on how I could go about tuning the trigger myself?

I have never done a layout step by step on the titan but I think someone did a while back. Check the Search feature using "Titan" as the search word and go back a year.  In order to pull the spring you need to make a piece to go in the rear of action in order to compress and release the spring block assy. Other wise you could damage the trigger and safety.. I will look and see if I have any pictures you can use.
