New Year resolutions anyone
« on: December 28, 2006, 11:33:34 PM »
Well I could tell you that I would like to stop world hunger, heal the sick and find shelter for the  homeless but I'm not running for Miss America, dont have the legs for it  he he. I would like to get my dad into airrifle hunting with me, he was a heck of shooter in the service and he's mention the topic a few times.I told him that we would go check out some airrifles after the new year, his reply " lets go this weekend". :)  My resolution is off to a great start. :D  Ed

Sounds like you're off to a good start, Ed.  I'm going to stick to just air gun resolutions, if I start thinking of everything that SHOULD go on my list, I'd probably have to shoot myself!

Like you, I could use a shooting partner.  My brothers live too far away, and so far, I haven't been able to get any of the guys I work with interested in "BB guns".  But I'll keep trying.

I really want to get a small metal lathe and maybe mill.

And of course, MORE GUNS!

Happy New Years, everyone!!

My New Year resolution is not to make any  resolution.
That way I will not brake any resolution.

I have the legs to be Miss Ameri.........oh crap, was that out loud?

I think I am going to shoot for quitting smoking.  I'm a real chimney, but I've quit before and know I could do it indefinately if I work hard at it.  I think I will also focus on no fast food too.  Last time I quit smoking (for 2 years) I turned into a real porker, and I think alot of that had to do with exchanging ciggarettes for french fries:)  Although I don't smoke in the house/car my kids and wife hate my smoking, and now that there will be a new tax ($1 a pack) I'm starting to realise that I could easily buy a nice PCP rig complete with pump and pellets for what I spend on cigarettes in a 6 month period.  Oh it's gonna be hard....guess I'll be shooting more:)

Only a couple days left, gotta go smoke...cya'll later!

good luck on quitting, its hard but well worth it.  I quit in 99 after some 40+ years of smoking.  Like you , I had quit before but it seemed  I would always come  back and smoke  more than before. OH that new $ 1.00 tax ,  I remember when the cost of a pack was less than that and even after raising to almost 3 bucks a pack,  it didnt stop me.
Ya just have to focus on one thing and make it last.

I also quit smoking several years ago, best darn thing I ever did !!  Feel much better physically and the amount of money saved was astonishing.  Quiting can be very difficult as we all know, but you can do it if you set your mind to it.

As for my New Years Resolution.......  lets see........I would say it will be to make less impulsive airgun related purchases.     I know I won't be able to keep that resolution but I'll give it a shot :)

Start eating right again and exercising.  Take my son shooting and fishing more.  Learn to call coyotes.  Rabbit hunt with my air rifle, and just shoot it a lot for the fun of it.  Unfortunately, I could keep going for a while, lol.  Good luck to everyone in the coming year.

I also quit several years ago, as a New Years Resolution.  NOT the first time, but this time it's stuck for 5 years.  We also had a big hike in state taxes, was looking at $5.50 a pack!  Did a couple things that really seemed to help.  Used the patch, that really does help with the nicotine craving.  But you have to follow the program!  The other thing I did was get some big calendars and figure out the total NOT spent on butts weekly.  At various points along the way, I wrote in items that I'd like to have if only I had the money.  At the time I was hot for a digital camera.  Took me about 3 months.  Too bad I wasn't into air guns at the time!

Now regarding impulsive purchases.  If you're going to Walmart, you know you'll look in sporting goods, and if there's a $74 Shadow, you know you will buy it.  This is NOT impulsive, it's a well thought out, carefully made plan.  And if you're going to multiple stores, well, that kind of planning will get you convicted of pre meditated murder in just about any state in the Union :-)!  So you see, you've already kept that Resolution, Jeff. Happy New Year, all!

Dave

Hehe, I know for a FACT that there is a $74 S1K sitting on the VERY top shelf of my local WalMart.  I even thought about buying it just to put on the classifieds here at cost+shipping to give someone a similar deal.  I don't need anymore stuff at the moment, I cut a stock for my 2260 on friday that is sitting oin the bench needing to be finished out, I got my Peterdragin tune kit the same day sitting next to my partially disassembled S1K, I have a QB78 that's going through a stock upgrade, a 2240 that's been in pieces on my bench for months, and I have a 2/3rds complete wooden 2240 sitting on the very same bench waiting for its last 3-4 hours worth of work before I give it away. I really don't need another project at this time....so no more purchases for me for awhile.  None of these projects even includes all of the "honeydo's" my wife has planned for me(shelving, trinket display case, paint kids room, CLEAN garage)....hehe, I hate vacation, I'm ready to go back to work so I can relax a little:)

I did the patch the first time and quit for 2 years.  I was doing fine until I packed up the family and bought a house clear across the country here in Texas.  Man, the stress of changing jobs, moving a family, buying a house, etc.....  I was at my new assignment one night talking to a friend of mine that had also transfered to Texas a few months before me.  He was standing in the smoking area having a smoke, and I got the urge and asked him for one...what's the big deal,, just one, no biggie....within a week I was buying a pack, and within a month I was smoking a pack a day again.  That was 6 years ago.  A pack a day is still less than the 2 packs I used to smoke when I was in the military, but still a pack a day TOO MUCH.  The calendar idea sounds great, might try that...I see a PCP around next September in my future:)

Yea, it's a real serious pain.  I'm still really worried that I wont shift my focus to french fries.  I like being 6' tall and 200 pounds, just about right for me.  The last time I was around 225-230, not such a good size for me.  Maybe I'll focus on cleaning my garage for now, getting rid of all of the stinky butt cans and junk.  I openned a fresh pack this morning, the last pack I have in stock.  I could go buy a few cartons before the price goes up, or I could go buy some patches.  I'll let ya know in a few weeks how it's going, or if it's going at all.
