USPS: incompetent, regionally at least: Missing rifle
« on: March 03, 2009, 10:51:55 AM »
In my recent purchasing adventure of a used RWS 92, the USPS has failed miserably in my opinion.  My rifle is mis-delivered, and they, USPS,  don't even know where it was delivered after my first three enqueries.

There is a tracking number, but all it says is:  "Delivered"  It doesn't say where it was delivered,,,doesn't give an address of where it was supposed to go, it didn't give an estimated date of delivery.

I hear reports from people never having the first problem with them.

Here in Tallahassee FL incompetence presides.  I have a PO Box (didn't have my rifle delivered there) and I find weekly mis-deliveries, and there is a dedicated mail drop slot for "mis-deliveries" for the patrons to help them do their job when they don't get it right the first time.

The fault is mine for not requesting a different carrier.  But you know,,,its the "United States" Postal Service - the greatest country in the world presumably, and I keep wanting to trust them, so I give them another try.

Not again.

I only hope it can be recovered.

In my opinion,,,there is a reason why most companies who ship packages DON'T use the USPS.  Yes,,they are cheaper,,,,,one gets what one pays for.

From what I'm reading.....I feel so blessed since both my PCP's were delivered by USPS to a P.O box......they don't hold mail/packages from other couriers.....so I didn't have a choice. I told the sellers to buy extra insurance for the guns...just in case they got "lost". Everything went smoothly.

I hope you had insurance on the airgun....and I hope they find it.....or at least compensate you for it. Good luck.

I have always used UPS big brown not had a problem before..and the driver knows my dog he brings treats for him LOL.  Anyway I have always worried about rough treatment on purpose and losing something in the mail, was told that if insured it can attract unwanted attention?. maybe someone can chime in with some thoughts what is the best way to send ??

After 5 calls, turns out that the Rural Route carrier is lazy.  His excuse for not delivering it was "he didn't know which house was ours - no house numbers"  Which is a lie,,,,I have 5 signs of house numbers leading up our lane and on our house - for the front or the back of the house.

He did leave it inside our fenced in yard.

But what also irritates me is ,  OK fine,,,he doesn't want to drive down our lane,,,,he could have left a green note of 'Pick up delivery notice' in our mail box,,,but he didn't.   It presumably was just going to sit in the main Post Office til who knows when - until someone asks.  He swiped it as "delivered"

I don't like having to keep people on their toes.

let the office know that the guy is lazy and the house is marked, you will have a new carrier quickly if it happens to anyone else.....

Yes,,I did that very thing, and this action is what is needed more,,,pointing out and not accepting mediocrity - in this case it is worse than mediocrity.
