Best Pellet for a benji 392 and a Sheridan C model
« on: March 03, 2009, 11:41:46 AM »
Ive become addicted to the Sheridan C models and the benji 392, I now own a benji 392, a clasic 1970 sheridan ( Thanks Joe @ longisland airguns) and waiting for my steroid sheridan from Mac1.  I read a lot of specific recomendations (BB Pelitier) on certain pellets working best in certain guns. I want to get a squirrel or 2 with both the benji 22 cal, and the Mac1 Sheridan (20 cal)  I want a pellet for squirrel hunting, obviously good accuracy for hunting and some good thump for knockdown. Rather than buying 100 bucks of 20 & 22 cal pellets and experimenting, can you guys get me dialed in closer so I only try a couple of different pellets ? I realize Im asking for both a 20 cal and a 22 cal pellet, will I luck out and the same brand/style pellet work in both guns (I realize I still need different Caliber)

Didnt know for sure where to post this,  Airgun gate gets the most traffic, but the hunting gate is maybe the place, but this is the pellet gate so here it is. Thanks guys !  Oh,  does tim from Mac1 frequent this forum ?  if so whats his nickname ?

Dan

Hey Shadow, Thanks for the reply !  Wow, the beeman silver bears are pretty light at only 9.88 GR.  the Predators weigh 13 gr.Do The Beemans have enough lead in them to get the job done ?   I like the thought of a lighter, faster and flatter trajectory pellet, as long as it has enough "thump" in it when it hits.

Dan,there are so many pel's to choose from,...and many seem to shoot very well with the Benji-Sher line of pumpers. I've been shooting the .22 Beeman FTS's in my 392 with good results. But the best thing about pumpers in general is their wide range of pellet choices regarding weight,.....not near as restricted as springer type rifles,...light or heavy depending on range and application. Have you tried the .20 cal BS conical pellets?!?!? I've often wondered why they don't offer them in .177 and .22 cal's as well. Maybe someone will chime in on this subject,...my thinking,...propietary rights or some legal mumbo-jumbo reasonning,...who knows! But as a rule,..your better brand name pellets usually give the best accuracy,...but not always,...every rule has it's exceptions. I prefer a domed pellet myself,...but for hunting, the Predators will "get 'er done" and magnums (HP's)  do provide a tremendous "shock and awe" effect on wild game!!!! Now I'm not sure about the rifleing ratio's between these pumpers and springers,...as most springer barrels that are shorter,...but I'll take a stab and say that the rifleing may be more prominent and perhaps aid in the accuracy with pointed pellets as well,...more spin?!?!?! I've had good results shooting the Beeman Silver-Stings too. I really haven't been much help since I haven't narrowed down a particular style/brand pellet,...but like we've all heard before,..you'll just have to find the ones that shoot best in your individual rifles. Good Luck finding the magic pellet combination,...I confident you'll figure it out before too long!!!! Keep us up-dated on your progress!!!! tjk

5 FPE's will get a solid kill with a head shoot or lung/heart shoot,....and you've well surpassed that amount of pellet energy with your Benjamin-Sheridan pumpers Bro'!!! I've killed BT's (squirrel) with the .177 Beeman SB's through a pre-tuned 450 FPS rifle at 20 yards. You've got the "juice" boy!!! LOL's Believe me!!! tjk

Thanks for your input TJK !  No, you didnt help me narrow it down much, could cost more than I want to spend on pellets trying / expermenting (but it will be fun!). But I enjoy reading the posts from you guys ! Actually it isnt the cost as much as the fact of buying 200 pellets only to find out the gun doesnt like them, then what do I do with the 190 pellets left ?  I realize that is kinda a stupid statement, but there is some truth to it LOL

TJK you asked "Have you tried the .20 cal BS conical pellets?!?!? "  You dont want to know what I think B.S. stands for LOL  I do have a tin of the Benjamin cylindrical 14.3 gr. pellets (it's been too cold here in Michigan to practice much) been in the single digits the last few days again, but anyways Thats what I plan on sighting in the gun with, right now thats all I have, hence the reason I asked this question, no sense buying any more until I get the pros feedback ! Suppose to get in the upper 40's maybe 50's this weekend ! I want to do some shooting !

LMAO,...I meant the Benjamin-Sheridan cylindrical pellets!!!! Not BS pellets....HaHa. I'm looking forward to this weekend too,....supposed to hit 72 Saturday,....but we got a lot of snow from this weekends storm to melt away. Like Ed said,.. the Preds are the $#it!!! JSB's are tops in my book though. OK, they're both an even match!! tjk

My late model Benjamin 392 likes RWS Superdomes the best of all that I've tried.

But it also like the cheap Daisy Wadcutters from WalMart nearly as well. I've tried Crosman hollow points and field points and Gamo Hunters (.177 Hunters work very well in most of my .177 guns) but the Daisies do better in my 392 than any of these.

My steroid 392 is dialed in with JSB exact 15.9g at about 30 give or take yards...with a williams peep it is as accurate as my eyes and steadiness allows...I think with that pellet i am 100% one shot kills...i really can't remember evr having to use a second..of course the 18's on up are supposed to give morer thump, but with 12 pumps the tradjectory on the 15.9's is a little better...and some larger animals have been taken with the 15.9 no problem at all...other than that..the 17.0 grain Dynamic TM-2 non-toxic, very expensive pellet is the most accurate and seems to be most efficient pellet to date..it's wicked long, almost 4/10 of an inch...much harder composition than trad pellets...flies very very well, especially beyond 30 yds. On closer than that shots ,you will have a complete pass thru with the pellet ending up in the next town, no kidding...
