A reminder for springer shooters................
« on: March 04, 2009, 03:03:00 AM »
I had a springer returned that I had sold to a customer, he said it wasn't accurate, needless to say I gave him a refund no questions asked, my mistake.....the stock screws were loose when I got the rifle back...tightened the screws and it was shooting at less than 1/2 inch off the bench at 25 yards.....check your screws, I don't loc-tite them so you the customer can adjust the triggers as you see fit. Also read the owners manual with all rifles, they may have something you can learn....

Great point Mike and there's new airgunner's out there that just pull the shooter out of the box and start throwing lead wondering why they just can't get a good pattern. :0 Ed

I was doing that.....then I found this place and read until my eyes bled....and my little brain absorbed whatever experience and knowledge the members here put forward.....now I`m a more wiser airgunner. I did read the instructions and tightened the stock screws......but didn`t give the barrels a cleaning. Later I blue Loc-Tited them.

I still forget to do the normal "inspection" sometimes when I get a new springer because I'm so excited to get it out of the box and shoot it.  Sometimes a few seconds can make the shooter 100x better.  For example, I just shimmed the breech seal on my new Hammerli (Norica) and it shoots faster (at least from wood penetration), smoother, and with less twang.  Normally I check all the screws and breech seal when I get my new shooters, but last time I was so pumped up to shoot it before the sun went down.

Let's also not to forget to properly clean and oil them also prior to first use.
Also making sure all sight screws or scope mount/ring screws are tight.

And on the QB57 or others that share it's action (QB88, B3? Guru's help me out here)
I suggest pulling the action out of the stock and making sure that all C-clips are present.
Other wise your trigger and safety won't work right.

Aw c'mon Mike, stock screws are for sissy's, us REAL airgunners just hold onto the action with no stock and shoot it like a rocket launcher....haha!!!  In case anyone is wondering, I'm joking, and I'm also probably the worst shot ever with a springer....there ain't a stock screw long enough to save me from myself:)

Here's a question:  How many of you have a set of spanner bits?  These are the bits that look like a flat bladed driver with the center cut out - made for those bolt heads with the two little holes in them.  I saw these on a rifle recently.  It was either a Ruger Air Hawk or Gamo Big Cat.  (I was handling both.)  These bolts are slightly domed like a carriage bolt and appear to sit flush on the stock.  Don't seem to have much room for fine tuning.  Hope this isn't the beginning of a manufacturing trend.

The ones on the fore stock are just plastic caps covering the screws.....

Good.  Or should I say "Good grief".  I guess they would be good if you buggered up the screw head.

I think I lost both of those plastic caps on the first few shots!
