Small home lathe

Spent the last 2 days bidding on a use lathe & some dick keeps out bidding
me by $5.. its qute cheap but if this keeps up its not going to end up cheap.
i really want it..has a few good extras with it...quick change tool post/
carbite tool set 'my inch ones wouldn't fit a small lathe" / live & dead centre / 4 jaw chuck.
Hope this dick runs out of $ soon

I feel for ya...sometimes I think there's people who just can't stand to see someone get a good deal, so they have to mess with the bidding a little(or a lot) to drive the price up. When that happens to me, I figure out whats the max I'm willing to pay for it, and then throw that bid in, when 15~30 seconds is left. If someone outbids you...thats the way the chips fall...no need to play their little game. There's always another treasure just around the corner. I have, on rare occasions, gotten some really good deals using that strategy, and bypassed the "bidding wars".

Not sure if it works in NZ (but it should): try auctionsniper.com

You put in the max you want to spend, set how soon you want it to bid before the end of the auction (I use 5 seconds) and let it do the work.  This way, you're sure to get in your max bid without starting a bidding war.

You should have used a snip program you tell what you are willing to pay max. and they place your bid 6 seconds before the auction ends , I win a lot of stuff on ebay this way.  the cost is very low and if you don't win your bid is not charged to you. I don't know what the cost for the bids is but  you buy so many for a few dollars. like 20 or 30 not a lot of money. works great. here is the wab address,   ((http://www.snip.pl/en/ ))   howie

Congrats on your ebay win Peter...and Howard, you take all the fun out of the game with that snipe program what happens if two bidders are using the snipe program??? Answer: I win cause I time my bid to within the last 3 seconds...LOL the old fasion way, I use the clock and a fast finger

When you use finger bidding and you have a bidding war going on the seller loves it he ends up with a great price for his item sometimes more than he should or could get for it.You can't  have 2 bidders at the same time the one with the first bid wins or if the bid is for the same amt. the first bidder who had the the first win. also you can change the bid time to more or less time to get the bid in  like 3 sec . or 10 min. The best part is if you place a bid using snip it lets you retract your bid without a big deal, and you can bid on more than 1 item if the first comes in you cancel the other bids so you don't end up with 5 of  them, and you can be out for the evening while the biding is going on and check if you won later. howie

Its a great wee toy....but thats what it is a TOY
I can't get use to sratching at the surface of the metal...
theres NO 4mm off in a cut on one of these things....
O well it will do till I stuff it
