WTB powerful pellet handgun
« on: March 10, 2009, 03:08:21 PM »
Seeing as most pellet handguns are rated around 400 FPS, I was wondering if anyone here has seen any that are more powerful than kids BB guns.

Anyone know any good ones, or have one for sale?

Plenty of pistols do better. Look at t he crosman forum. With a little work, the co2 2240/2300/2400 will get to the upper 500's. For lot more work on the pumpersyou will get into the mid 600's with .22, higher with .177. John

I did not say it was the most powerful one on the planet . You asked for one over 400 fps. If you don't like it don't take it . Its not issue for me . Marvin

OUCH.

I've got a bad case of sticker shock.

Know of anything for a budget shooter? Say, south of $200?

I was thinking this one:

Good? Bad?

That's a little high in reality they are about 500 -550 fps. Mine with a 24 inch barrel averages 653fps with cp7.9 pellets .Marvin

I have two versions of the 1377 and they both work great, they are easy to pump, and shoot straight they are also very customizable. With scopes and shoulder stocks. I think they also sell wood handles and extended barrels. Although to hold them like a handgun i find is a bit of a test of endurance especially if you have a scope mounted.

I have a Crosman factory custom 2240 .22 (called 2300) if you are interested.  It has the steel breach and bolt, 10.1" barrel, red-dot sight, and a muzzle break.  Shoots 500fps or 8.3 ft-lbs (fpe).  About 2.5-3fpe more than a stock 1377.  It's like new in the box.  Used it very little since I bought it new last summer.  It's CO2, no pumping.. just pull the steel bolt back, reload, and shoot.

Air Force Condor .25 (Talon Tunes)
Air Force Condor .25 (Lemak)
CO2/Pump:
RWS Hammerli 850 .22
Crosman 2240 Custom .22
A few Crosman pumpers .177

I had a 1377 and just could not get into all that pumping.  Guess I'm lazy :-).  Have you checked out Crosmans custom shop yet?  You can "build" your own CO2 pistol or rifle for very little money.  Here's the link to Crosmans site: http://www.crosman.com/  You can put together a pretty nice little pistol for under $200, customized to your liking.  BTW, the P5 Mag is a fun gun, but it's a handful to shoot.  I'm enjoying mine for now, but I suspect it will be on the market in a few months.  I'm still not really a springer guy, and I'm not much of a pistolero anymore, either.  Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info on the custom shop! I'll need to ask them what the FPS rating is on the base gun for the shop.

base 2240 in .22cal is 450fps but that is equivelant to >600fps in .177 to get the same energy (fpe).  With a 10.1" barrel velocity is 500fps (equiv. to 675fps in .177) and 14" barrel 550fps (same 740fps in .177).

If it's hunting you are looking for, look at the energy in ft-lbs, not just velocity unless you made up your mind to go with .177.

Xisico has a new one coming that may fit the bill, no price on it yet. The one I'm testing is an air soft model and will need some mods done to it at the factory as it's way over powered, shoots in the 500 fps range with the ammo I have on hand, so fast you can't hit the side of a barn with it. If it's made this way with .177 pellets it should do around the same velocity with pellets if the weight etc. is the same...
