silver streak
« on: June 22, 2006, 04:00:22 PM »
I have been trying to find instructions or manual to help me take this 1965 silver streak apart so I can install seals in it.  I have found several places on the net that sell seals and a tool, but before I shell out 30 plus shipping I need to have some sort of idea of what I am getting into.    This gun I purchased new and is now very well used. the stock is full of fine cracks, I did remove the piston and found the cup hard as a rock and has fine cuts in it.  It also had the roll pin used as a pivot cracked and broken.  I made a removal tool out of a hardened pin on my lathe.

does the valve come out completely or is it soldered in place as the barrel is?  Thanks John

the valve does not come out completely, only the stem, guide, seals, lock ring, springs and intake valve. You will need the tool, but these guns were designed for owner service (at a time when most guys HAD to be handy.) Watch how it comes apart,if you have any problems email me and I'll send you an exploded pic with the parts in the right relationship.I's not hard ,I didn't have any drawings for my first few...

it must come out from the rear then....a square head with a hole in it to allow the valve stem and then it unscrews?  if i could make the tool then the only cost will be the seals and a few new roll pins.  that gun has killed a ton of pheasants.  the first couple years in my house in illinois they had a game farm across the road, pheasants used to roost in trees along side the road.  fed the kids a lot of them and bunnies when they were growing up.  john

Yep,out from the back..you'll need to make 2 tools...ome with the square to fit the retainer ring and a center hole to clear the stem and guide, and another tool with an inside thread to pull the guide, they stick pretty tight. The factory tool combines them, but its realy tough to get the dimensions right without the parts on the bench.the tool is worth the money,IMO.
