B26 break barrel lock-up question
« on: March 19, 2009, 06:19:11 AM »
Hello everyone. I own an MM-B26 and love it but I have a question regarding the lock up mechanism with this gun and others like it. Will you always get a certain amount of variance in the lock up thereby varying yourprecision on a target when using a scope? From what I've read, this seems to be the Achilles heel for break barrel rifles in general. I just wonder if it matters how hard you close the barrel and will it effect the end result of your shot? Would love to hear comments on this subject matter. Thanks!

I"ve got quite a few rifles, including a couple of B-26's and I haven't noticed any problems with the lock up on any of them.  I guess one could have a rifle where the lock up is not functioning properly, but there are fixes for that.

Unless you are actually having an accuracy/consistency problem I would worry about it.....

Forgot to add,,,, I just apply enough force to close the barrel securely,,,, not to hard, just enough to cleanly close it, and I have experienced any problems.....

Ya right on the money Jeff. Just cockit and return it so you hear it lock up and that is it. Unless you have a seal problem or a miss aligned breech to actions you will never have to worry. Breech seals on the B-26 are big and strong so it should last a long long time. You might apply a small and I mean small bit of clear lube on the seal. Just enough to make it shine and no exess at all. Also put some clear lube on your lock up chisel. Just a dab.

if it's a problem only with a scope.....

if the rifle shoots acurately with the open sights and then has problems with it with a scope it may not be the scope or the rifle...it could be you, the way you hold the rifle with a scope mounted may cause problems. Make sure the pivot bolt is snug and hold the barrel in position after you have cocked the rifle, you should be able to return the barrel half the way to lock up and let go and it will stay there by itself...
