HW77 question
« on: March 22, 2009, 02:50:11 AM »
The cocking lever seems to be sticking in the spring catch and is very hard to get it free to cock the gun. It used to be a one hand job but has turned into a two hand fight! I'm pretty sure something has moved, back, and that's why it is sticking.

Question

How do you remove the cocking lever clasp from the end of the barrel??? I see a hole in the top portion, but with these old eyes, cannot see an allen set screw and none of my extensive collection of allen wrenches fit even if there was one in there. I tried tapping it using a wooden block to maybe move it out a little but it didn't budge and I don't want to beat the thing up.

Help!

I like it when I answer my own question. After further inspection I found that there was parts of some insect(wasp) that had crawled into the opening and was subsequently smashed when releasing the cocking lever. The smashed parts were blocking the ability of the sliding clasp from full travel. A little carburator cleaner washed it out and I was able to re-grease it. MUCH better now!!

Still don't know how to get the end piece off the barrel though in case I ever have to.

Ron, the end piece is a press on fit. There is a elongated raised notch on front bottom of barrel about 1" from the end. The external piece that slides on the barrel has a milled notch the same with. It is tapered so that you cannot knock the thing any further to the rear of barrel. Kinda a stop there. I would not suggest removing it because there is no way to adjust it. If your bee's and wasp's are cleaned out of the hole at end, you should be ok...:)..:)  Don't ya just love it when you can figure out what the problem is..:)  Bringing you a can of Black Flag to help with those pesty cridders buddy next month...  Or you could just shoot them with your new BSA Lightning..:)

I think I'll just shoot em!! We had the gun out of the safe all weekend and left it in the Man Cave all weekend. What a strange deal.
