My new MM-B26 ... WOW!
« on: March 26, 2009, 02:46:31 PM »
Hello all-

WOW! Just got my new, MM-tuned B26 (.177) yesterday. Smooth & easy cocking with the Merlin spring from Mike. Light and VERY comfortable to hold. Feels and shoots great offhand using iron sights.

Just finished putting about 100 pellets (Gamo Match) thru it and I'm calling it my "can't miss" gun. (My wife is laughing at me as I'm writing this -- she thinks I'm crazy -- she's right -- crazy about this rifle.)

Started out at 15m, elbow rest & offhand - can't miss. Moved out to 25m w/ elbow rest, can't miss. Offhand, hitting more than half. That's seems pretty good for the first time out with it. Can't wait to scope it!

This rifle is amazing. GREAT TRIGGER! Very solid. Finish is great. Buying from Mike Melick couldn't have been easier.

Now I know what all you happy MM-B26 owners are talking about.

Can you tell I love it... gotta go look on Mike's site to pick the next one...

... I am fully infected with the BUG ...

Hey Hollington, that Merlin spring is a great spring for de tuning the .177 springers. I have one in my Gamo Hunter .177 and it sure is sweet. Very consistent velocity about a 5 fps over all variable on a 15 round string. What makes it so great is that it shoots right at 800 fps and that is great for accuracy. The Merlin works great in a few different brand air rifles, like your B-26. No one usually wants that spring because it is not made for high fps. But it is a great spring if you want to put together a nice accurate shooter..:)

Hi Gene-

Yes, the combo of the Merlin spring and the B-26 is just what I was looking for. This rifle is sooo comfortable.  I may just use the iron sights on it, maybe hold off on the scope for now -- I'm enjoying it so much.

I am also surprised that the Gamo Match pelllets work so well. I just bought a load of them from Gamo at $3.99 with free shipping. Great deal and no problem with damage.
Hey, an inexpensive pellet that shoots great? -- I like that!

Welcome to the GTA, Hollington, and congratulations on your MM B-26.

Of all the Chinese clone air rifles, the B-26 is one of the absolute best.  It is a clone of the Beeman R-9.  IMO, the Beeman R-9 is "the" benchmark springer air rifle.  And what Mike does with the B-26 makes them perform as well as, or better than a new Beeman R-9 out of the box.  The trigger is a clone of the famous Beeman Rekord trigger.  Search around a bit within the last year and there is a good discussion posted on the B-26 trigger and tips on adjusting it.

If Mike has worked on the trigger for you - polished the sear, etc, then you have a really fine trigger indeed.  In addition, Mike usually adds a gloss polish to the factory finish on the wood. The stock on the B-26 is right-hand, but it is pretty close to ambidextrous and comfortable to shoot for left-handers as well.  Mike goes through each of the guns before he sells them, cleans them thoroughly, and test fires them to make sure they are set up correctly and shooting accurately.  They are ready to shoot and to shoot accurately the instant you take one out of the box

For the price Mike sells these air rifles, for the added value of Mike's clean up and tune, and because Mike is a genuinely nice guy and a true gentleman to deal with, the MM B-26 the single best buy in an air rifle I know of.  All of us who own one (or two, or three) of Mike's babies know exactly why you are smiling.  Enjoy!

I got my MM B26 177 a month or so ago. I'll bet my satisfaction with my gun is more than your satisfaction. Just kidding!  A great gun, a great guy, Mike, and a great day.

 Good Health!

Mike

What sort of ft/lb figures do you all get with that Merlin spring in the B26?

WIth my Gamo Hunter .177with the Merlin XL spring, using JSB Exacts at 8.3 gn it calculates out to 11.798152096659558 ft lbs. That is with 800 fps.

Hi Graham-

Well, I don't know how to give you the ft/lbs but I can give you the chrony readings from Mike Melick - they were written on my inner packing box:

RWS Superdomes: 680 and
Beeman Silver Bears: 720

How does one calculate ft/lbs?

EDIT: OK, I found the calculator in the "Library". It works out to about 8 ft/lbs for these pellets.

I am not Graham but I can help...:) If  you go to the GTA Library there is a envergy calculator there and you can figuer you FTLBS if you know the weight of pellet. There is a pellet chart on Straightshooters web site that has most pellet weights by caliber.

Using and RWS Superdome  8.3gn at 680fps you ftlb energy will be 8.524164889836532.

Good luck
