Hey, fine.  I got your drift.  And you judged the book by the cover, I see.  And certainly Conservatism can be perceived to be just as radical as Communism in the minds of many, right?  Yet still, I suggest you read it.

Tuit suite, mon ami.

Red Feather judged the book to be political an potentially "volatile" (eg, controversial).  Red Feather politely asked that I move my post.  I did.  I doubt Red Feather has read the book yet, but I may be wrong.  Call it what you will.  And please don't think my intent here is to criticize Red -- in essence, he is right, I am, by suggesting others read the book, attempting to advance a "political agenda" if one thinks the attempt to understand, and perhaps preserve our nation's Constitutional freedoms is a partisan political agenda.

Red suggested, politely, that the post be moved, and I complied with his request.  You misjudge if you think I am reacting to Red Feather, or that my response is contentious, although I must say that I feel that the only possible similarity between "Conservative Manifesto" (which wasn't mentioned in my original post and takes a magnifying glass to see in the graphic of the book), and "Communist Manifesto" -- Red's comparison, not mine -- is the word "manifesto".

It is what it is. . .  But I repeat, and re-emphasize my original post's intent, political or otherwise:

This book is a MUST READ for any American concerned about what is going on in the country today and what it means for themselves, their families, and future generations of Americans.  I implore all to read it or listen to it and endeavor to understand the implications of what is happening in America, today, right now.  It has and will continue to have profound consequences in all of our lives and for generations to come.

Politically correct 'fairness' knows no bounds!
« Reply #20 on: March 27, 2009, 06:17:31 PM »

How many hours a week should we have to work to pay the criminal elite oligarchy to rule us?

`

The constitution was originally written to protect the 'people' from unapportioned taxation and government infringements.

`

Wonder if Randy Weaver would care to agree upon this politically correct 'fairness'?

`

I'm sure I've missed out on the 'fairness' thing as well . . . of course, I {and others here} haven't even finished with baking the bread yet!

Well, I am about half way through my second "reading" (actually, I have been listening on my iPod) of "Liberty and Tyranny".  What an outstanding book Levine has written!  I do hope others will take the time to read this.  It is probably one of the best and most logical books ever written detailing the principles of Conservatism and the moral and Constitutional underpinnings of the USA and of civil society.

I do not intend to open this general topic or any specific topic in the book up for forum debate here and now.  I only ask that those who know or think they know something of constitutional law and US history, or those who want to know more and perhaps thereby understand Conservatism vs modern Liberalism (a misnomer better called "Statism" according to Levine) and thereby perhaps better understand your own political thoughts and positions, to give it a read.

Levine is a Conservative author who brings the works and philosophies of Adam Smith, Edmund Burke, James Monroe, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Ronald Regain and C. F. Lewis (to drop just a few names who find their way into the book) to life in modern and easily understandable language, and in a refreshing, thoughtful manner, as compared to other "political" books of our time.  Thanks.

Mark Levine:  Liberty and Tyranny, a Conservative Manifesto

TEC

From the back cover:
"The world has never had a good definition of the word liberty, and the American people, just now, are much in want of one. We all declare for liberty; but in using the same word we do not all mean the same thing. With some the word liberty may mean for each man to do as he pleases with himself, and the product of his labor; while with others the same word may mean for some men to do as they please with other men, and the product of other men's labor. Here are two, not only different, but incompatable things, called by the same name---liberty. And it follows that each of the things is, by the respective parties, called by two different and incompatable names---liberty and tyranny."  Abraham Lincoln
