Brass Tophat?

I am about to do my first tune, on my crosman phanton 800.  I am having a bit of a hard time finding good information on brass tophats.  Are there advantages to making it out of brass? Will it be too soft? Anyways, I will be machining the parts myself so a little trial and error I am not afraid of.

Can't  see a prob with brass...just don't go any heavyer than the standard unit..
