Finally installed a sling on my Gamo 440
« on: April 11, 2009, 09:54:52 AM »
Purchased swivel/stud off E-Ghay.

Used a piece of strap and carabiner around the cocking mechanism.

Spare briefcase sling just lying around found a new life.

Voila!

Great looking 440 and you did an excellent job on the sling set up. There are many of us who wonder how one can  sling a barrel cocker effeciently.

derek,

Nice. Does the strap affect cocking at all ?

I wanted a sling  on my Whisper, but the lever for the cocking mechinism doesn't leave enough room between it and the barrel to put a strap around it as you've done.

Then I thought about drilling a hole through the side of the stock for a swivel, but the pastic looks a bit thin up there.

Turns out the 'Uncle Mike's' swivel sets sold at Wal-Mart that have a combination of a machine screw for the front swivel and a wood screw for the rear - the machine screw is the same thread as the front stock screws.

There is a knurled nut that comes with the swivels. I put that on the machine screw thread first to act as a spacer and a stop. Then I threaded the swivel into the left stock hole nice and tight. The knurled nut bottoms out in the stock screw's recess and is long enough to alow the swivel to not hit the stock, yet still holds the stock tight to the barrel.

I  especially like it for when I use the sling around my left arm during off-hand shooting. And as luck would have it, it's in just the right spot to act as a palm stop against the base of my left hand thumb when I shoot prone.

Nope. I have installed slings in all of my break barrel springers this way.

Another example is my B-1 "ugly" gun
