Whisper at 50 yards, ...
« on: April 14, 2009, 11:16:42 AM »
Finally had a warm day without 25-30 mph winds. Took the Whisper (with the new GRT-III trigger) to the range today, - a very nice surprise using Crosman Premier Hollow Points. This could become "habit-forming". ;)

So how did you do?  Next time I'm out at the range, I plan to take my Whisper (also with GRT-III and soon to have an Air-Venturi) and see how things look at that kind of distance.

Don't have any pics, - but 4 10's and the rest within the rings. Only about 10-11 shots at 50 yards - the rest were at 25 yards, using Gamo MATCH pellets. Doubt I could have done this with the factory trigger. ;)

That's funny, and I didn't mention it. A lot of people on here sing praises for the CPHP. They're not so great in my gun. Every other pellet I've shot so far holds better groups (RWS Super H-Point, Gamo Hunter, Gamo Magnum, Beeman Crow Magnums, Predators) than the CPHP. It is somewhere on the order of 2x larger groups (typical 1/2" or less for most, but up to an inch for the CPHP), and the other thing I don't like about them is that their trajectory is far different than the rest. At 10 yards, my groups are within 3/4" of center (I sight in for the Crow Magnums) except for the CPHP which are about 45 degrees low and right and 1.5" off of center. Oh well. They still work for cheap practice.

A package arrived at home today (I'm still at work) with JSB Exacts, RWS Superdomes, RWS Meisterklugens, and another tin of Crow Magnums. I'm looking forward to seeing how the 3 new pellets shoot out of my rifle tonight.

Nice Work!!! Doubt the factory trigger would have allowed for that.

Whatever works is the "way to go". I sent out a few Gamo Hunters too, - not as accurate in my Whisper, but they do have some "very decent" impact. In fact at 75 yards, they still made a pretty good dent in a 1/4" plywood backstop.

I guess I just got lucky with my Whisper...no problems yet with the scope, although I picked up a Golden Antler just to have back up cause it was on sale. I screwed the trigger adjustment screw clockwise quite a bit, and now the trigger has no travel, pretty crisp. Gamo Hunters indeed do a nice job, but the Predator Polymags will do a squirrel no doubt, every time.
