New S1K Breakin In Well.............. report.....
« on: January 15, 2007, 10:12:35 AM »
Well I have put over 1500 pellets through my new S1K so far. Now using a glove to cock it... hehe. Have used quite a variety of pellets so far and as usual for me it is coming down to Superdomes being the best groups so far. But that may change. Gonna get my new GRT-III installed tomorrow or Wednesday. That will bring my groups allot tighter. Average today at 30 yards around 1 1/2 inches. No flyers using the Superdomes. It just takes a load of pellets to get them tight patterns along with a good trigger.

This seems to be one of the best S1K's I have had so far, as far as the mechanical end of things. No twang out of the box or weird noises when cocking it. Very smooth and consistant through the cocking stage. I have also sweetened up the recoil a bit. As usual I stuffed the stock full of small pieces of memory foam. It is not to lite weight but is just enough to balance out the rifle. I have done this on all my Synthetic stocks. Works for me. Some of the other guys fill there stocks with various other materials depending if they like a heavier rifle or liter one. Some don't do it at all...:)

I will be back with maybe some shots of the targets after I get my GRT-III set where I like it and run a couple hundred more pellets through it..

Wrong again Ed... he's got holes shot all over in the floor of his shower. He don't have a drainage problem though.

Gee, I usually really enjoy picking on Gene, but you guys have me feeling sorry for him!  Of course, 1500 pellets does lead one to wonder if there's any glass left in his windows :-)!  Don't worry, Dano, your title of Cheif Nut is safe.  Gene's just a nut with more free time than most of us!  Later.

Memory Foam Stock Stuffing
« Reply #6 on: January 17, 2007, 01:07:49 AM »
Gene,

Just wanted to ask you exactly what kind of "memory foam" you are stuffing your stocks with and where you get it.  I'm thinking of trying it in one of my shadows but don't ever remember seeing that material anywhere I've been shopping.  Thanks..............

Hey Jeff

I bought it at a store where they sell fabric. Most women shop there.... hehe but I thought they would have something there that would work and found it.

It is memory foam in a back that is all broken up in pieces. Guess they use it for pillows. Not very expensive. Works great for me to deadin the noise and recoil. It does not weight the gun down a whole lot.

Yardage store or clothe store should have it..

Good luck

Thank you so much Gene, will go lookin for the stuff.  I was thinking of using that foam sealant that dispenses out of can, picked it up at Home Depot, but not quite sure how it would work.  Anyway, thanks again.

Wooooooooooooooooooo Jeff........ That foam sealer will not work very well. It expands like 4 to 1.. Plus you would never be able to get it out that good if you ever wanted to put somethin else in there..:) At least the memory foam will let you pack as much as you want, and it comes right out if you want to change or add more....:)

Good Luck Bud

Sound advice !!  I'll save the canned sealant for house application.  Thanks again. :)

Hey, Jeff, if you're looking to add some weight, try Duct Seal.  If you leave it wrapped in the plastic it comes in, it's eays to remove, and can be molded to fit the stock.  Stuffed full, my CFX will hold about 1 1/2 pounds.  You CAN use the expanding foam, just put a plastic produce bag in the cavity first, fill about 1/3 to 1/2 with foam, let cure, then carve the excess.  Or do both, endless variety!  Later.

Hey Dave,

I'm not familiar with "duct seal".  I'm assuming I can get it at Home Depot?? What dept. would I find it in?  I wasn't primarily thinking about adding weight but now you have me wondering if some extra weight might not be a good thing.  Something to consider.  Thanks Dave.

You can find the duct seal with the roof flashing and other assundries.

Made a target (semi-silent) out of that stuff.  ONly problem was that it came in a 5lb tub and took a MONTH to dry.  Course, I did use the entire 5lbs in my trap......
