Plastic pellets, ...
« on: April 18, 2009, 07:23:01 AM »
I recently saw some plastic pellets advertised. (Using lead is no problem - I just like to experiment) Has anyone tried plastic pellets??? If so, what did you think of them?

I'll see if I can find where I saw them, - I believe they had a piece of metal molded-in for weight.

RWS sells a "hyper-velocity" pellet which is a in a "sabot" style...look at them in both.22/.177 here http://www.airgunsbbguns.com/RWS_Air_Gun_Pellets_s/86.htm

A computer lets you make more mistakes faster than any invention in human history - with the possible exceptions of handguns and tequila.
most all personal problems can be solved with the proper application of high explosives

I just ordered some of these Plastic Sabot Pellets.. And am/was quite excited about trying them out.
However, I just read somewhere that these pellets are not recommended for Springer type airguns..
Does anyone have any information to confirm and or deny this??

I am not sure about these RWS pellets other than if they were really good everyone would be saying so...I would be  alittle cautious going too light on pellet weight it will likely not be accurate and  could damage your airgun spring. I would like to see some tests before I tried them. FPS is nothing if you miss:)  Tony.

There is a variety of lead-free pellets on the market and several different types that range from hyper velocity to the lower velocities for pistols and such.. The #1 lead-free pellet is produced by Skenco based in Hungary. Skenco is the manufacture that actually puts the plastic ballistic tip on the Predator Polymags. There are .177 and .22 available with different grain weights. The most popular .177 for hunting purposes is the Black Max 6.4 gr and the Golden Rod 8.5 gr. In .22 the Long Range Missile at 16 gr. They shoot extremely accurate and work great in the springer type rifles. There is even a pellet designed for rotary magazines. It is the Steel Fist .177 and is shorter in length to accomodate the magazine. If you are interested in knowing more visit http://www.morgandees.com or http://www.skenco.com.

I am facinated with the lead free aspect of airgunning, especially for springer guns.. I have a Super Streak that boasts 1500fps with the superlight pellets that come with the gun,
however, they are not at all accurate since they are so light and break the sound barrier.. I would be anxious to know what CharlieDa Tuna has to say about
these lead free and or sabot pellets.

Predator's lead-free line Scorpion manufactured by Skenco have different gram weights and styles depicted by types. I personally like the Golden Rod that weighs the same as the Predator Polymag .177.

Hey boys, I have been using the Skenco,Goldenrod 8.5 grain and the Skenco match,6.4 grains. I too was just exprimenting. They shoot pretty good and I am convinced they penetrate a lot better than lead as they have a zinc(harder) head. I made dents in a stove burner(3/32" steel) with lead and holes with the skenco, both weights. But accuracy is not as precise as lead in my gun. Gamo,Viper.177. They do leave some plastic residue in the bore and I smell a faint burnt plastic smell after shootin.AKJC1977
